More than 400 job opportunities have been offered to restaurant group Crystal Jade's employees.

Advisory firm Kroll, which was appointed receivers over the holding companies of Crystal Jade's Singapore and Hong Kong operations on Sept 29, said that restructuring measures for the Singapore business had been put in place, including the closure of four of its outlets.

The four outlets — comprising three Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao restaurants at Bugis Junction, Toa Payoh and i12 Katong, as well as Crystal Jade GO at Oasis Terraces in Punggol — ceased operations on Oct 6.

Termination notices were also issued to around 120 workers across the outlets, ahead of a proposed sale of the business.

The restructuring leaves the group with nine operating outlets in Singapore and a total staff strength of about 210.

"All affected employees have been informed directly and will receive salary payments up to their final date of employment. Restaurant staff will continue to serve their applicable notice periods and will be compensated in accordancewith their employment contracts," Kroll said.

It does not expect any more closures in Singapore.

While Crystal Jade is a non-unionised company, the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) was approached by the appointed receivers to support affected union members and workers.

FDAWU and NTUC's Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) said in a statement that they have curated over 400 job opportunities across the food manufacturing, food services, hospitality and wholesale and retail sectors as well as engaged employer partners to conduct on-site interviews for affected workers during the exercise.

The employer partners include Paris Baguette, Neo Group Bakery and Din Tai Fung, said FDAWU.

Sankaradass S Chami, FDAWU's general secretary, said: "We know this will be a difficult and uncertain time for affected members, workers and their families. Our focus is to ensure that members and workers are treated fairly, kept informed and receive the support they need and do not have to navigate this period of uncertainty alone."

It also supported a communications exercise conducted by Crystal Jade for affected workers on Wednesday, bringing together support across the Labour Movement network, coordinating on-the-ground assistance with e2i.

Meanwhile, affected union members and workers may make an appointment with an e2i career coach at https://eappt.e2i.com.sg/, or via e2i's general enquiries hotline at 6474 0606.

Affected members who require assistance may contact FDAWU at 6737 6088 during office hours or email fdawu@ntuc.org.sg.
