A local content creator's joke about getting Chinese milk tea chain Chagee to open an outlet at Northpoint City has ended with him getting a life-sized standee of himself outside the store.

Muhammad Rifqi Solihin Muhammad Hairi, 25, first joked about the outlet after craving Chagee while he was in Kuala Lumpur for work, according to Berita Harian (BH) on Wednesday (Oct 7).

The travel content creator, known for his China-related content, said he started making Chagee-related videos in April, as a break from producing more structured and polished content.

His first video received about 9,990 likes, prompting him to make around 16 Chagee-related videos, mostly unpaid collaborations, BH reported.

One recurring joke was his request for Chagee to open an outlet at Northpoint City, so that he can enjoy their BOYA Jasmine Green Tea.

This Singaporean told BH he never expected the request to become a reality, but Chagee began responding to his videos before he learnt that the brand would indeed open an outlet at the mall.

As the opening approached, Rifqi made another joke, asking whether Chagee could place a life-sized standee of him at the Yishun outlet.

To his surprise, Chagee contacted him to say that the idea has been approved.

"I was really surprised and couldn't believe it. Because it all started as a joke," he told BH.

The standee was produced while Rifqi was in China.

The Chagee outlet in Northpoint City finally opened in late September.

The standee was initially meant to be displayed until Sept 29, but after friends and fellow content creators overseas asked for more time to see it, Chagee reportedly agreed to extend the display until Oct 13.

Rifqi said he now hopes to visit Chagee's factory in China, bring the standee to other outlets and create his own drink with the brand.

No new collaboration has been confirmed, but he told BH: "These are all dreams, but I don't think they are impossible. Let's just wait and see."

AsiaOne has reached out to Chagee and Rifqi for more information.
