A fugitive wanted for attempted murder triggered a two-hour armed siege at a luxury Nonthaburi condominium on Thursday. Chalermphon, 41, leapt from an elevated parking level to escape arrest before threatening suicide with a loaded Colt pistol. Armed police surrounded him, shutting a major road near Phra Nang Klao Bridge. Fearing bail would be refused, he resisted surrender until his mother and wife intervened. Officers seized two loaded Colt pistols, 25 rounds of ammunition and methamphetamine. Police also uncovered a 2020 firearms case. Injured in the jump, Chalermphon was hospitalised under police guard, facing attempted murder and further firearms investigations.

A 41-year-old attempted murder suspect sparked a dramatic armed police siege outside a luxury Nonthaburi condominium on Thursday. Cornered by investigators, he jumped from an elevated parking level before pressing a loaded Colt pistol against his head.

Armed officers surrounded the injured fugitive as he threatened to shoot himself. Meanwhile, police shut a major road near Phra Nang Klao Bridge, causing widespread traffic disruption. The two-hour confrontation ended after his mother and wife helped persuade him to surrender. Officers subsequently recovered two loaded Colt pistols, 25 rounds of ammunition and methamphetamine. The suspect was taken to hospital under police guard.

The confrontation unfolded on October 8 outside a 33-storey condominium on Rattanathibet Road. The building stands in Sai Ma, Mueang Nonthaburi district, close to the old Phra Nang Klao Bridge. Regional police investigators had tracked the suspect to the property after an overnight search. They moved in to enforce an attempted murder warrant issued by the Nonthaburi Provincial Court.

Wanted for attempted murder, suspect leaps from condominium parking level and threatens to shoot

The fugitive was identified as Chalermphon, also known as Oil, aged 41, from Bang Yai district. His surname was withheld in local media reports. Police confirmed that he was wanted under court warrant number 1331/2569, issued on September 11, 2026. The warrant covered attempted murder and several firearms offences linked to an earlier criminal investigation.

However, the planned arrest quickly became a dangerous confrontation. Chalermphon spotted approaching officers and attempted to escape by jumping from an elevated parking level. He fell approximately four metres, injuring his left leg, fingers and back. Some reports indicated that his leg was fractured.

Despite the fall, the suspect remained conscious and armed. Instead of surrendering, he produced a loaded .45-calibre Colt pistol and pressed it against his right temple. He threatened to shoot himself if officers approached.

Consequently, armed police surrounded the condominium entrance and established a security perimeter. The injured man remained near a security guard’s booth, holding the weapon against his head. Officers took positions around the building while attempting to establish communication.

Armed police seal off Nonthaburi condominium as bridge road closure brings major traffic disruption

The confrontation unfolded beside a busy road carrying traffic towards central Nonthaburi. Therefore, police moved quickly to restrict access and protect passing motorists, residents and pedestrians. Officers positioned vehicles around the scene to provide cover against possible gunfire.

Within minutes, traffic police ordered the closure of the inbound carriageway approaching the old Phra Nang Klao Bridge. The restrictions affected vehicles travelling towards Khae Rai Intersection. Motorists were diverted towards the newer bridge, where traffic was restricted to one lane.

The closure caused substantial disruption as the evening traffic period approached. Nevertheless, officers maintained the restrictions throughout the confrontation. The road remained closed while Chalermphon continued threatening to shoot himself.

According to Police Major General Phanuphak Jitprayurati, investigators had tracked the fugitive since Wednesday night. He commands the Investigation Division of Provincial Police Region 1. Police believed Chalermphon routinely carried firearms and had a history of violent behaviour.

As a result, the arrest operation involved experienced investigators and armed police personnel. Police Colonel Poonsuk Techaprasertphon, commander of Investigation Subdivision 1, helped organise the operation. Regional special operations officers and Nonthaburi provincial investigators also participated.

Regional investigators and armed officers move to arrest fugitive after overnight police surveillance

Separately, officers from Bang Si Mueang and Rattanathibet police stations were deployed. Investigators had already confirmed that Chalermphon was staying inside the condominium. Their objective was to execute the September warrant and take him into custody.

One police account placed the initial operation at approximately 4 pm. However, another report recorded the emergency response at 5.15 pm. By then, the suspect had escaped from the parking level and was threatening to shoot himself.

Accounts differed over the precise floor from which Chalermphon jumped. Some identified the second-floor parking level, while others described a third-floor jump. Nevertheless, the reported fall was approximately four metres.

The impact left Chalermphon injured but capable of holding his weapon. Witness descriptions identified him as wearing a yellow long-sleeved shirt and jeans. He remained outside the condominium while speaking with relatives and friends by telephone.

Meanwhile, armed officers maintained their positions around the entrance. Police prevented unauthorised people from entering the immediate area. Investigators also attempted to communicate directly with the suspect.

Suspect fears refusal of bail as police enlist his wife, son and relatives in tense armed negotiations

Initially, Chalermphon refused to lower his pistol. He continued holding it against his head while speaking with family members. Police negotiators maintained contact, repeatedly urging him to surrender.

The suspect subsequently expressed concern about the outstanding attempted murder warrant. According to reports from the scene, he feared that surrendering would result in imprisonment without bail. His concern became part of the negotiations.

In response, police sought assistance from his family. His wife and son spoke with him by telephone. Other relatives and friends also joined efforts to persuade him to surrender.

Police Major General Phanuphak participated in the negotiations alongside Police Colonel Supachai Srisak, a senior Nonthaburi provincial investigator. Both officers communicated with Chalermphon while armed personnel maintained the security perimeter.

During the confrontation, the suspect’s wife spoke briefly with investigators about his personal circumstances. She described accumulated family problems and believed these had contributed to his distress. She also cited the pressure of the attempted arrest.

However, her explanation remained a family assessment rather than an established medical finding. Police had not confirmed that Chalermphon was experiencing a psychiatric condition. Investigators had also not established whether he was under the influence of drugs.

Mother arrives at armed standoff as fugitive demands final embrace with wife before surrendering to police

The confrontation continued as officers maintained the road closures. Police remained stationed around the building, while negotiators urged the suspect to put down his weapon.

At approximately 6 pm, Chalermphon’s mother arrived at the condominium. Her arrival brought another family member into the negotiations. Police subsequently involved her in efforts to secure his surrender.

According to Khaosod, the suspect eventually agreed to surrender after making a personal request. He wanted to embrace his mother and wife before officers took him into custody.

The request became part of the final negotiations. Throughout the discussions, police maintained their positions around the building. Family members continued urging Chalermphon to end the confrontation.

Eventually, the suspect lowered his firearm and allowed officers to approach. Reports placed his surrender between approximately 6.30 pm and 6.50 pm. The armed standoff had lasted nearly two hours.

Police immediately moved in and secured Chalermphon. His family remained nearby as officers completed the arrest. The confrontation ended without any reported shots being fired during the standoff.

Police secure injured fugitive and recover loaded Colt pistol as rescue workers take him to hospital

However, the scene remained tense after the suspect surrendered. His mother rushed towards him after learning that police had secured the arrest. Officers intervened to control movement around the suspect and maintain the cordon.

Shortly afterwards, rescue personnel from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation attended to his injuries. Chalermphon had injured his leg, fingers and back during the jump. Some reports described a broken leg.

Rescue workers subsequently arranged his transfer to Phra Nang Klao Hospital. Police accompanied the suspect and stationed officers at the hospital. He remained under guard while receiving medical treatment.

No police officers, condominium residents or members of the public were reported injured. The only reported injuries resulted from Chalermphon’s attempt to escape the building.

Following the arrest, investigators recovered two loaded handguns and additional weapons-related evidence. A detailed inventory published by Matichon identified the principal weapon as a Colt 1911 pistol. It was chambered for .45-calibre ammunition.

The handgun was reportedly loaded and ready to fire. Police recovered 17 rounds associated with the weapon. Two magazines contained seven and nine rounds respectively, with another round already chambered.

Second loaded Colt pistol and methamphetamine recovered as investigators examine suspect’s condo

Furthermore, officers recovered a second handgun from Chalermphon’s shoulder bag. This weapon was identified as a 9mm Colt Defender pistol. Police recorded its Thai registration number as กท.56201105.

The second pistol contained eight rounds of ammunition, including one chambered round. In total, investigators recovered 25 rounds associated with the two handguns. Both weapons were reportedly loaded and ready for immediate use.

Police also seized two concealed-carry holsters and a folding knife. The recovered weapons and related equipment were taken into custody for examination.

Notably, the discoveries established that Chalermphon had access to two loaded pistols during the police operation. Officers initially confronted him while he held the .45-calibre weapon against his head. The subsequent search revealed another loaded handgun inside his shoulder bag.

Investigators also searched the suspect’s condominium room. There, officers discovered seven methamphetamine tablets and approximately 0.36 grammes of crystal methamphetamine.

The narcotics were recovered as evidence for further investigation. Police had already raised concerns about possible drug involvement before Thursday’s arrest. Nevertheless, published reports did not establish whether Chalermphon had consumed drugs during the confrontation.

Police prepare drug test as June attempted murder warrant reveals firearms charges and unanswered issues

Accordingly, investigators planned to conduct a drug test when his medical condition permitted. They also intended to question him about the recovered narcotics, firearms and ammunition.

The original attempted murder investigation remained central to the case. Police confirmed that the outstanding warrant arose from an incident in June 2026. The investigation was handled by Bang Mae Nang Police Station in Nonthaburi.

The case was registered under criminal case number 437/2569. Subsequently, the Nonthaburi Provincial Court issued arrest warrant number 1331/2569 on September 11.

The warrant accused Chalermphon of attempted intentional murder. It also covered unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, alongside carrying a firearm in public without permission.

Additionally, the warrant included discharging a firearm in a populated area without justification. These accusations related to the earlier investigation rather than Thursday’s condominium confrontation.

However, published reports provided limited information about the June incident. Police had not identified the victim or released a detailed account of the suspected attempted killing.

Furthermore, the available material did not establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Investigators had not publicly identified a motive or explained the relationship between Chalermphon and the victim.

Earlier firearms case emerges as police examine fugitive’s weapons history and dangerous arrest operation

On another front, police records disclosed an earlier firearms case involving the suspect. That investigation was registered at Bang Yai Police Station in 2020. It carried criminal case number 986/2563.

The earlier record formed part of the background available to investigators before Thursday’s operation. However, the reports did not establish the outcome of the 2020 proceedings.

Police had considered Chalermphon a potentially dangerous suspect because of his reported firearms history. Consequently, regional investigators and armed personnel were deployed to enforce the September warrant.

The decision to involve specialised officers preceded the suspect’s jump from the building. Investigators had already anticipated the possibility that he would be armed.

Nevertheless, the arrest attempt developed into a prolonged confrontation once Chalermphon escaped the parking level. His injuries prevented him from leaving the area, but he continued threatening to shoot himself.

The subsequent recovery of a second loaded pistol added another element to the firearms investigation. Officers had to establish the legal status of both weapons and their ammunition.

Police investigate handgun registration and drugs as injured suspect remains under armed hospital guard

Although the Colt Defender carried a reported Thai registration number, investigators still needed to examine its ownership and possession. Registration alone did not establish whether Chalermphon was legally permitted to carry the weapon.

Similarly, police had to examine the .45-calibre Colt 1911 and its ammunition. The recovered holsters and folding knife were also retained as evidence.

Meanwhile, Bang Si Mueang Police Station assumed responsibility for the new firearms allegations arising from Thursday’s confrontation. These matters were separate from the original attempted murder warrant.

Investigators were also examining the drugs recovered from the condominium room. The seven methamphetamine tablets and small quantity of crystal methamphetamine required further examination.

However, published reports did not connect the recovered narcotics to the June attempted murder investigation. Nor had police established that drug consumption contributed to the armed standoff.

The suspect’s medical condition remained an immediate consideration following his arrest. Police intended to resume questioning once doctors permitted it.

As part of the continuing investigation, officers planned to conduct the drug test and examine the firearms evidence. The existing attempted murder proceedings remained active alongside the new investigation.

Roads reopen after two-hour standoff as attempted murder suspect faces further questioning in hospital

By Thursday evening, the emergency operation had concluded. Police removed the security restrictions around the condominium and reopened the affected roads.

Traffic resumed near the old Phra Nang Klao Bridge after officers confirmed that Chalermphon had been secured. The disruption had lasted approximately two hours.

Meanwhile, the suspect remained under police guard at Phra Nang Klao Hospital. Investigators were preparing to question him about the attempted murder warrant and Thursday’s confrontation.

The operation ended with the 41-year-old suspect alive and in custody. No additional casualties were reported.

Police recovered two loaded Colt pistols, 25 rounds of ammunition, two holsters and a folding knife. In addition, investigators seized seven methamphetamine tablets and approximately 0.36 grammes of crystal methamphetamine.

The outstanding attempted murder case remained unresolved in published accounts. Police had not disclosed the victim’s identity, the circumstances of the June shooting or the suspected motive.

Chalermphon remained under police guard at Phra Nang Klao Hospital on Thursday night. Further questioning and drug testing were planned once his condition permitted. Meanwhile, investigators continued examining the seized weapons and narcotics alongside the original attempted murder case.
