A tragic accident occurred in Kuala Berang, where a KFC restaurant manager, Nor Haizura Mamat Sidek, 45, was fatally struck by a car while crossing a road.

The collision involved a Proton Saga driven by a 24-year-old man accompanied by a 22-year-old female passenger, who remained unharmed.

The incident took place in poor visibility conditions on a wet, heavily trafficked road with no streetlights.

Authorities are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

KUALA BERANG, Oct 9 — A KFC fast-food restaurant manager died after being struck by a car while crossing the road at Kilometre 31 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Bukit Besi, near Ajil Mosque here, yesterday.

Hulu Terengganu district police chief Supt Sharudin Abdul Wahab said the victim, Nor Haizura Mamat Sidek, 45, died at the scene due to severe head injuries.

“The accident involved a Proton Saga travelling from Kuala Terengganu towards Kuala Berang. Preliminary investigations revealed that the car was driven by a 24-year-old man, accompanied by a 22-year-old female passenger.

“At approximately 8.15pm yesterday, the victim, a pedestrian was believed to be crossing the road from left to right when she was struck by the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was taken to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem,” he said in a statement today.

He added that neither the driver nor the passenger sustained any injuries in the incident.

He noted that the road surface was wet following rain at the time of the incident and the location was a two-lane straight stretch in one direction with heavy traffic.

“Visibility was poor as it was dark and there were no streetlights. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said. — Bernama
