All educational institutions in Kedah will operate as usual tomorrow, with API readings below 100 across the state as of 2 pm today.

The Kedah State Education Department advises schools to monitor air quality and prioritise the health of students and staff.

Schools should remain attentive to updates and take necessary actions for those sensitive to air conditions.

ALOR SETAR, Oct 10 — All educational institutions in Kedah will operate as usual tomorrow as the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at all monitoring areas in the state were recorded below 100 as of 2 pm today.

The Kedah State Education Department (JPN) said in a statement that this was, however, subject to any further directives from the Ministry of Education and the relevant authorities.

“The Kedah JPN expresses its appreciation for the concern and decree of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, regarding the importance of safeguarding the safety, health and welfare of students and education personnel following the haze affecting several areas in the country.

“The API readings are below 100, so all educational institutions in Kedah will operate as usual,” the statement said.

The Kedah JPN said school administrators and educational institutions had nevertheless been reminded to remain alert to the latest developments, monitor API readings through official Department of Environment channels and take appropriate measures to ensure the safety and health of students and education personnel.

“Schools should also pay close attention to students and education personnel experiencing health problems, particularly those who are sensitive to air quality conditions, and take appropriate action if any students or education personnel show signs of ill health.

“The Kedah JPN will continue to monitor developments in the haze situation and coordinate action with all District Education Offices and educational institutions based on the latest readings and directives from the authorities,” it said. — Bernama
