SINGAPORE: Even as heavy rain brought chaos and thrills to the first-ever sprint race at the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix on Oct 10, drivers have questioned whether it “makes sense” to run the shorter-format event on street circuits like Marina Bay.

Introduced in 2021 as part of a move to add variety and excitement to the race weekends, sprint races cover 100km or about one-third the distance of a regular F1 race.
