Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) announced the resumption of its key systems and services following a cyberattack on October 8, confirming the safety of depositors' savings.

TH undertook comprehensive security checks and system recovery measures, with branches in Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan reopening, and other branches resuming normal operations.

The agency collaborated with cybersecurity authorities to address the threat and reinforce system security, ensuring the safety of reactivated services.

TH has lodged a police report and continues to monitor systems closely while urging depositors to report any anomalous activities.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — Lembaga Tabung Haji’s (TH) key systems and services have resumed operations following a temporary suspension due to a cyberattack on Oct 8, with depositors’ savings confirmed to be safe.

In a statement today, TH announced that the reactivation of these key systems and services followed comprehensive security checks, the strengthening of controls, and system recovery measures.

According to the statement, TH branches in Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan resumed operations yesterday, while branches in other states opened as usual today; services provided through strategic banking partners have also been reactivated.

“TH assures that depositors’ savings are safe. Close monitoring and security enhancements will continue to ensure that the reactivated systems and services operate safely and smoothly,” the statement read.

On Oct 8, TH temporarily suspended system and service operations across all channels to protect depositors’ savings and personal information following a cyberattack that caused service disruptions.

Following the incident, TH said its internal team collaborated with external experts and national cybersecurity authorities to investigate the event, address the threat, and restore the systems.

Describing the attack as a criminal act against TH and the nation intended to disrupt its services, the agency lodged a police report and notified the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) and the Department of Personal Data Protection (JPDP).

At the same time, TH announced that all functions of the THiJARI platform have resumed operations, with the exception of password resets, new user registration, and online account opening.

“These three functions still require further restoration work before they can be reactivated. Updates regarding this matter will be communicated through TH’s official channels from time to time.”

According to TH, close monitoring and security enhancements will continue to ensure that the reactivated systems and services operate safely and smoothly.

Consequently, the agency urges depositors who detect any unusual transactions, or who require assistance or have inquiries, to immediately contact the TH Contact Centre (THCC) at 03-6207 1919.

“TH extends its appreciation to depositors for their patience, cooperation, and support throughout this restoration period. We once again apologise and deeply regret the incident; however, these measures were necessary to safeguard depositors’ savings,” the statement added. — Bernama
