A 61-year-old man allegedly assaulted three people at a Bedok coffee shop on Friday (Sept 4), injuring two women and leaving one bleeding, before pushing two police officers who responded to the incident.
In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it received a call at 7.45pm for assistance at Block 204 Bedok North Street 1.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had been involved in a minor altercation with a 32-year-old man and two women, aged 29 and 25. Two bystanders stepped in and tried to stop the man.
When officers arrived, they found several men engaged in a scuffle and intervened to break it up.
The 61-year-old man then pushed two officers and knocked the spectacles off one of them. He also uttered vulgarities at another officer, said the police.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force AsiaOne that two people were taken to Changi General Hospital, while two others sustained minor injuries but declined to be taken to the hospital.
Man allegedly assaulted female employee
A diner, surnamed Liu (transliterated), told Shin Min that "the man even pushed the officers".
According to Liu, the man was believed to have consumed two or three bottles of beer before getting into an argument with a female employee at the coffee shop.
The pair allegedly grappled for a while before the stall owner arrived about half an hour later and asked the man what had happened.
After the man said a few words, the female employee interjected, which allegedly caused him to become agitated and hit the stall owner.
Liu said her friend saw the stall owner's spectacles being knocked off during the assault.
Two employees who tried to intervene and break up the fight were also allegedly hit, she said.
Another witness, surnamed Chen, told Shin Min that the man had allegedly assaulted the female employee before getting into a physical altercation with two other employees.
During the incident, the man also collided with another table of diners, knocking over several bowls and plates.
"One female employee had a cut on her lip and was bleeding, while another staff member said she could not lift her arm," said Chen.
The coffee shop was left in a mess, with spoons and plates scattered underneath a table alongside food scraps.
Man restrained after allegedly resisting police
A laksa stall owner who helped to restrain the man told reporters that he noticed the fight after hearing a female employee screaming.
According to the stall owner, police officers asked the man to sit down after arriving at the scene, but he refused to comply and became more aggressive.
The man had allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted the officers.
The stall owner said he and several others then stepped in to help restrain the man.
"I grabbed him from behind and pinned him to the ground, but he kept struggling."
When Shin Min visited the scene, the man was undergoing a breathalyser test before he was handcuffed and taken into a police vehicle.
Regular customer at coffee shop
Stallholders at the coffee shop said that the man was a regular customer and had never caused trouble in the past.
An employee at an Indian food stall, Ali (transliterated), said the man frequently visited the coffee shop to eat and was generally good-tempered, reported Shin Min.
Another stallholder, who declined to be named, said they often saw the man at the coffee shop.
"He's a nice person, but we don't know if he had too much to drink or was under a lot of stress. His behaviour suddenly became unusual."
The man was arrested for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty and voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty, said the police.
He will also be investigated for voluntarily causing hurt and intentional harassment.
Police investigations are ongoing.

男子涉嫌殴打女员工
一位姓刘（音译）的食客告诉《新明日报》，“那名男子甚至还推搡了警察”。
刘先生表示，该男子在与咖啡店的一名女员工发生争执之前，据信喝了两三瓶啤酒。
据称，两人扭打了一会儿，大约半小时后，摊主赶到并询问该男子发生了什么事。
男子说了几句话后，女店员插话，据称这导致他情绪激动，打了摊主。
刘女士说，她的朋友看到摊主在袭击中眼镜被打掉了。
她说，两名试图介入并制止打斗的员工也遭到了殴打。
另一名陈姓目击者告诉《新明日报》，该男子据称殴打了一名女员工，之后又与另外两名员工发生肢体冲突。
事件中，该男子还撞到了另一桌用餐者，打翻了几个碗碟。
陈女士说：“一名女员工嘴唇被割伤流血，另一名员工说她抬不起胳膊。”
咖啡店里一片狼藉，勺子、盘子和食物残渣散落在桌子底下。
男子因涉嫌拒捕被警方制服
一位帮忙制服该男子的叻沙摊老板告诉记者，他是在听到一名女员工的尖叫声后才注意到这场打斗的。
据摊主称，警察到达现场后要求该男子坐下，但他拒绝服从，反而变得更加具有攻击性。
据称该男子拒捕并袭击了警员。
摊主说，他和几个其他人随后上前帮忙制服了这名男子。
“我从后面抓住他，把他按倒在地，但他一直在挣扎。”
《新明日报》记者到场时，该男子正在接受酒精测试，随后被戴上手铐并带上警车。
咖啡店常客
咖啡店的摊主们说，这名男子是常客，以前从未惹过麻烦。
据《新明日报》报道，一家印度食品摊的员工阿里（音译）表示，这名男子经常光顾咖啡店吃饭，而且脾气通常很好。
另一位不愿透露姓名的摊主表示，他们经常在咖啡店看到这名男子。
“他是个好人，但我们不知道他是不是喝多了，或者压力太大。他的行为突然变得很反常。”
警方称，该男子因使用暴力妨碍公务人员履行职责和故意伤害公务人员以妨碍其履行职责而被捕。
他还将被调查是否涉嫌故意伤人和蓄意骚扰。
警方调查仍在进行中。
