Anwar: MACC to investigate fertiliser‑supply delay to paddy farmers in Kedah; errant contractors may face termination

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate delays in the supply of Fertiliser 3 to paddy farmers in Kedah's Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) area.

He emphasized that such delays are unacceptable and urged that any detected wrongdoing should lead to legal action, including the termination of supply contracts.

The issue, which has affected approximately 38,000 farmers, has also marred the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security's image.

Anwar reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting paddy farmers and mitigating disruptions to their livelihoods.

SERDANG, Sept 6 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate the issue of delays in the supply of Fertiliser 3 to paddy farmers in the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) area in Kedah.

He stressed that the delays should not have occurred and must not be allowed to recur.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said that if any wrongdoing was detected, action should be taken to terminate the supply contract, including prosecution in accordance with the country’s laws against those responsible or any companies involved.

“Which company was entrusted with the responsibility? Did they fulfil their promise or not? If they did not fulfil it, why was no action taken against them? If a company like this repeatedly makes mistakes, terminate the contract! Appoint a new company.

“Do not make farmers and paddy farmers the victims. Take action; if there has been wrongdoing, bring them to court. If they are to be charged, let MACC come in and review this process,” he said in his speech at the closing ceremony of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026 here today.

Anwar said paddy farmers should not be burdened with any issues that disrupt their livelihoods, especially at a time when they are already facing other problems, including water supply and hot weather conditions.

He said the issue of delays in the fertiliser supply had also directly tarnished the image of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS).

“MAFS has a clean record under Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. Its officials and ministry staff have always been committed to helping paddy farmers, but the damage caused has given the government a bad image.

“So, I want to use this opportunity to say that the government will do whatever possible to continue uplifting and helping paddy farmers, and those in the agriculture and livestock sectors,” he said.

The media had previously reported a call by Pengkalan Kundor assemblywoman Mardhiyyah Johari for the government to consider compensation for paddy farmers who suffered losses due to delays in the distribution of Additional Compound Fertiliser, or Paddy Fertiliser 3, in the MADA area.

The delay was reported to have affected about 38,000 paddy farmers cultivating 78,117 hectares of paddy in the MADA area.

Mohamad Sabu, in a statement, said the Paddy Fertiliser 3 had been supplied to MADA paddy farmers since last Thursday and was expected to be fully distributed within 10 days. — Bernama

“不要让农民和稻农成为受害者。要采取行动；如果存在不当行为，就将他们绳之以法。如果他们要被起诉，就让反贪污委员会介入审查这一程序，”他在今天于此举行的2026年马来西亚农业、园艺和农业旅游展览会（MAHA）闭幕式上发表讲话时说道。

安华表示，稻农不应该背负任何扰乱他们生计的问题，尤其是在他们已经面临供水和高温天气等其他问题的时候。

他表示，化肥供应延误的问题也直接损害了农业和粮食安全部（MAFS）的形象。

“在拿督斯里莫哈末沙布部长的领导下，农业和粮食安全部一直保持着良好的记录。该部门的官员和工作人员始终致力于帮助稻农，但造成的损害却给政府带来了不良形象。”

“因此，我想借此机会表示，政府将尽一切可能继续扶持和帮助稻农以及农业和畜牧业从业人员，”他说。

此前媒体曾报道，彭加兰昆多州议员玛迪雅·乔哈里呼吁政府考虑向因MADA地区额外复合肥料（或称水稻肥料3）分发延迟而遭受损失的稻农提供补偿。

据报道，此次延误影响了MADA地区约38000名稻农，他们种植的水稻面积达78117公顷。
