Kedah appeals for continued cloud seeding as Pedu, Muda and Ahning dam levels keep falling

ALOR SETAR, Sept 6 — The Kedah state government appealed for the continuation of cloud seeding operations, coordinated by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), to help raise declining water levels at dams in the state.

State Public Works, Natural Resources, Water Supply, Water Resources and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Mohamad Yusoff Zakaria said that while the operation carried out from Thursday to yesterday resulted in rain, it was still insufficient to boost reservoir levels.

He said before cloud seeding on Sept 2, total water supply at the Pedu, Muda and Ahning Dams stood at 37.14 per cent, but had dropped to 36.64 per cent this morning.

“The water level at Pedu Dam is now at 38.46 per cent, compared to 39.02 per cent on Sept 2, while Muda Dam recorded 9.04 per cent, down from 9.32 per cent previously,” he told Bernama today.

Meanwhile, supply at Ahning Dam stood at 45.00 per cent, compared to 45.32 per cent over the same period.

He said sufficient dam water supply is critical to ensure the smooth operation of padi irrigation systems, as Kedah’s agricultural sector is heavily dependent on these water sources.

Earlier, the federal government took early and targeted measures to address dry weather conditions, low rainfall, and the risk of deteriorating air quality through cloud seeding operations in Kedah and Perlis. — Bernama

吉打州政府敦促国家灾害管理局继续进行人工增雨作业，以提高该州水坝不断下降的水位。

近期人工增雨虽然带来了降雨，但并未充分提高水库水位，主要水坝的水位均出现明显下降。

确保水坝水位充足对于吉打州水稻灌溉系统的有效运行至关重要。

州公共工程、自然资源、供水、水资源和环境委员会主席拿督莫哈末·尤索夫·扎卡里亚表示，虽然从周四到昨天进行的作业带来了降雨，但这仍然不足以提高水库水位。

他表示，在9月2日进行人工增雨之前，佩杜水坝、穆达水坝和阿宁水坝的总供水量为37.14%，但今天早上已降至36.64%。

“佩杜水坝的水位目前为 38.46%，而 9 月 2 日为 39.02%；穆达水坝的水位为 9.04%，低于之前的 9.32%。”他今天告诉马新社。

与此同时，阿宁水坝的供水率为 45.00%，而同期为 45.32%。

他表示，充足的水坝供水对于确保水稻灌溉系统的顺利运行至关重要，因为吉打州的农业部门严重依赖这些水源。
