Just two hours after air quality in Singapore improved slightly on Thursday (Oct 15) afternoon, PM2.5 readings are up again — hitting 205µg/m3 in the central region at 5pm.

The central one-hour PM2.5 reading had earlier eased from a high of 197 at 10am to 144 at 2pm, before climbing again from 3pm onwards.

Elsewhere, concentration readings are in the high band in the eastern (161), southern (157) and western (155) regions.

Only northern Singapore remains in the elevated band (56 to 150µg/m3).

The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) ranges from 122 in the northern region to 188 in western Singapore.

The next highest reading of 186 was recorded in central Singapore at 5pm.

Meanwhile, a total of 38 outdoor and non-aircon ActiveSG facilities across the eastern and central regions remain closed as a precautionary measure, according to a 2.30pm update posted by Sport Singapore on the ActiveSG Circle website .

Those from the Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation; holders of the Community Health Assistance Scheme (CHAS) Blue and Orange cards and Medical Fee Exemption Cards (MFEC); and recipients of ComCare Assistance are eligible to collect their masks at Community Clubs or designated vending machines located at selected public transport hubs, Social Service Offices and People's Association venues.

In addition, pregnant women, children between the ages of seven and 16, and those with medical conditions such as asthma may collect their masks at Community Clubs.

Members of the public can use the HazeMaskGoWhere website for more information on the eligibility criteria, collection locations and live updates on mask availability at the vending machines.

Each eligible person may collect one pack containing two N95 masks.

Family members or friends may collect the masks on their behalf using the eligible person's NRIC.

Those intending to participate in outdoor activities are advised to check the latest one-hour PM2.5 readings.

When concentration readings are in the high band, healthy persons should avoid strenuous outdoor activities for the next hour.

Vulnerable persons, including those with chronic heart and lung disease, should avoid all outdoor activities for the next hour.
