Don’t link salvation in the hereafter to politics, says religious affairs minister

Minister Zulkifli Hasan emphasized that political support should not determine salvation, as only Allah SWT can decide one's fate in the hereafter.

He warned against using religion for political gain and urged a mature political culture focusing on justice and the well-being of the Muslim community.

His statement responded to reports of PAS suggesting political party support as a path to heaven.

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 Sept — Differences in political support should not lead to a punitive or condescending attitude towards others, let alone linking salvation in the hereafter to membership of or support for any political organisation.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the determination of heaven and hell is the absolute right of Allah SWT and cannot be guaranteed by any individual, leader or political organisation.

He said support for any political organisation was not a measure of attaining the pleasure of Allah SWT, as faith, piety and righteous deeds based on the Quran and Sunnah served as the primary foundations.

“The attitude of claiming one’s group is definitively pure while others are excluded from the mercy of Allah SWT is a form of self-praise and ghuluw (extremism), which is strictly prohibited in Islam,” he said in a Facebook post.

Zulkifli said political parties were merely wasilah or intermediaries in human endeavours that were not exempt from weaknesses and ijtihad (independent reasoning), and could not be equated with religion or used as an absolute measure of a person’s standing before Allah SWT.

In this regard, he urged all parties to mature their political culture by making justice, the well-being of the ummah (Muslim community) and good character the core principles, rather than exploiting religious sentiments for political gain.

“Engage in mature and ethical politics based on justice and the well-being of the ummah, without compromising the values of faith and ukhuwah Islamiah (Islamic brotherhood),” he said, while asking society to distinguish between religion as a guide to life and political parties as platforms for human endeavour.

The statement was made in response to media reports yesterday quoting PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan as saying that supporting PAS and its Islamic-based struggles could be a path to heaven.

Takiyuddin was reported as saying that those who joined PAS and fought for Islam had the opportunity to earn the reward of heaven, in addition to describing those who died defending Islam as martyrs. — Bernama

总理府（宗教事务）部长祖基菲里·哈桑博士表示，决定天堂和地狱是真主安拉的绝对权利，任何个人、领导人或政治组织都不能保证这一点。

他表示，支持任何政治组织都不能衡量是否能获得真主安拉的喜悦，因为基于《古兰经》和圣训的信仰、虔诚和正义行为才是根本。

他在脸书上发帖说：“声称自己的群体绝对纯洁，而将其他群体排除在真主安拉的慈悯之外，这种态度是一种自夸和极端主义，伊斯兰教严格禁止这种行为。”

祖基菲里表示，政党只是人类活动中的中介，并非没有弱点和独立思考（ijtihad），不能与宗教等同，也不能作为衡量一个人在真主面前地位的绝对标准。

在这方面，他敦促各方完善其政治文化，将正义、穆斯林社群的福祉和良好品格作为核心原则，而不是利用宗教情感谋取政治利益。

“要参与基于正义和穆斯林社群福祉的成熟且合乎道德的政治活动，同时又不损害信仰和伊斯兰兄弟情谊的价值观，”他说道，并要求社会区分宗教作为生活指南和政党作为人类努力的平台。

这份声明是对昨天媒体报道的回应，报道援引伊斯兰党秘书长拿督斯里达基尤丁·哈桑的话说，支持伊斯兰党及其以伊斯兰教为基础的斗争可能是一条通往天堂的道路。

据报道，塔基尤丁表示，加入伊斯兰党并为伊斯兰教而战的人有机会获得天堂的奖赏，他还称那些为捍卫伊斯兰教而牺牲的人为烈士。——马新社
