On October 16, an attempted cable theft disrupted MRT Kajang Line services between the Phileo Damansara and Pusat Bandar Damansara stations in Kuala Lumpur.

The incident, detected at 5:30 am, led to a temporary power cut to facilitate inspections and the safe tracking of the suspects by the Auxiliary Police.

Rapid KL provided alternative train services during this period and views cable theft as a serious threat to operations and safety.

A police report has been filed, and collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police is ongoing to investigate and prevent future incidents.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — An attempted cable theft between the Phileo Damansara and Pusat Bandar Damansara stations disrupted MRT Kajang Line services early this morning.

Rapid KL said the incident was detected at 5.30am, following an intrusion into the track area.

It said power supply to the affected area was temporarily cut in line with established operating and safety procedures.

“This step was taken to allow the Auxiliary Police to carry out inspections and operations to track down the suspects safely, while ensuring the safety of passengers, staff and the track area as well as the smooth operation of train services,” it said in a statement today.

Power was restored at 6.32am after the necessary action was taken.

Rapid KL said alternative train services were provided temporarily throughout the inspection and search operation to ensure passengers could continue their journeys safely.

The operator said it viewed cable theft seriously as it could affect train services as well as the safety of passengers and staff.

A police report has been lodged at the Brickfields district police headquarters for further investigation.

Rapid KL added that it will continue to work with the Royal Malaysia Police to assist in the investigation and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
