An American businessman was arrested at a luxury Sukhumvit residence in Bangkok on Thursday over more than ฿1 million in unpaid wages. The company director, identified only as Michael, faced two Samut Prakan court warrants issued in June and August. Furthermore, he is accused of defying a Thai labour inspector’s order. His business supplies machinery and software to the beer and wine industries. Yet he remained at large for nearly four months after the first warrant. Immigration police finally tracked him down on October 15 and transferred him to Samut Prakan. His company remains unidentified, while police have not disclosed how many employees went unpaid.

An American businessman was arrested at a luxury Bangkok residence on Thursday, October 15, over more than ฿1 million in unpaid wages. The company director was wanted under two arrest warrants issued by Samut Prakan Provincial Court.
Employees accused him of failing to pay their wages correctly and on time. Furthermore, he faced accusations of defying an order issued by a Thai labour inspector. Immigration police tracked him to Sukhumvit before arresting him and transferring him to investigators in Samut Prakan.
The arrest was announced on Friday, October 16, by senior Immigration Bureau officers. The suspect was identified only as Michael, an American national whose surname was withheld. He is a director of a company supplying machinery, equipment and software to the beer and wine industries.
American faces two wage warrants as immigration police intensify searches for wanted foreigners
In addition, the business imports and distributes food and beverages. However, the investigation centres on complaints from employees who reported substantial unpaid wages.
The workers claimed combined losses exceeding ฿1 million. Their complaints led to criminal proceedings and two arrest warrants issued by Samut Prakan Provincial Court. The first was issued on June 22, 2026.
A second followed on August 14, nearly eight weeks later. Both remained outstanding when immigration investigators located Michael at his Bangkok residence on October 15.
The operation followed instructions from Immigration Bureau Commissioner Police Lieutenant General Nophasil Phoolsawat. He ordered officers to intensify investigations into foreign nationals wanted under outstanding Thai arrest warrants.
Specifically, immigration units were directed to track foreigners avoiding criminal proceedings. The directive formed part of a wider enforcement campaign targeting wanted foreign nationals across Thailand.
Immigration officers confirm two Samut Prakan warrants covering unpaid wages and inspector’s orders
Police Major General Songprot Sirisukha, commander of Immigration Division 3, subsequently supervised the investigation. His officers worked with Samut Prakan immigration police to establish the American’s whereabouts. Investigators checked information held in the Royal Thai Police database. The search confirmed two active arrest warrants issued by Samut Prakan Provincial Court.
The first was warrant number 580/2569, dated June 22. Meanwhile, the second was warrant number 772/2569, dated August 14. Both concerned accusations involving unpaid wages and failure to comply with labour enforcement requirements.
Michael was accused of jointly failing to pay employees correctly and within the required deadlines. He also faced accusations of jointly failing to comply with an order issued by a labour inspector.
Notably, the wording of the reported charges refers to joint responsibility. However, police have not identified any other individual facing proceedings. Neither have investigators explained whether the warrants relate to separate complaints or different stages of the same investigation. Nevertheless, both court warrants remained active when immigration officers located the American businessman.
Police identify American director’s beer and wine equipment business but withhold its registered name
Investigators established that Michael was a director of a company supplying industrial machinery and specialist equipment. The business provided products used in beer and wine manufacturing.
Additionally, its activities included software connected with those production industries. Separately, the company imported and distributed food and beverages within Thailand. Police have not publicly identified the business or disclosed its registered address.
The company’s ownership structure, registered capital and financial position were also absent from the police announcement. Furthermore, investigators did not reveal how long Michael had operated the business in Thailand.
There was no confirmation of when the company began failing to meet its wage obligations. Equally, police did not establish whether the business was still operating when the arrest took place.
What investigators confirmed was that several employees had complained about their employer’s failure to pay them. According to the Immigration Bureau, the workers identified Michael as responsible for the outstanding wages. Their combined reported losses exceeded ฿1 million. Yet the exact amount was not disclosed. Nor did police identify the number of affected employees or their nationalities.
Workers claim more than ฿1 million in unpaid wages as police trace American director to Sukhumvit
Consequently, it remains unclear whether the complaints involved Thai employees, foreign workers or both. The published information contained no breakdown of unpaid salaries or outstanding periods.
Similarly, the amounts owed to individual employees were not disclosed. Even so, the complaints had already resulted in legal proceedings and the issuance of two court warrants.
A further accusation concerned Michael’s failure to comply with an order issued by a labour inspector. This formed a separate element of the reported charges. However, the announcement did not disclose when the inspector issued the order or what it required.
There was also no confirmation of whether it covered all outstanding wages or particular employee claims. Likewise, investigators did not establish publicly whether any workers subsequently received partial payments.
By October 15, immigration investigators had obtained information identifying Michael’s whereabouts in Bangkok. Their inquiries placed him at an upmarket residential property in the Sukhumvit area.
Reports described the location as a luxury mansion or residential building. Another account identified it as a condominium. However, police did not release the property’s name, street address or precise location.
Senior immigration officers lead Bangkok operation to arrest American wanted under two court warrants
Officers subsequently moved to the residence and arrested the American company director. The operation involved personnel from Immigration Division 3 and Samut Prakan Immigration.
Police Major General Songprot Sirisukha oversaw the investigation under instructions from the Immigration Bureau commissioner. In parallel, senior officers from both units coordinated the effort to locate and arrest the suspect.
Police Colonel Chinawut Tangwonglert, deputy commander of Immigration Division 3, was among the senior officers involved. Police Colonel Sittisak Korsakul, superintendent of Samut Prakan Immigration, also participated.
Additionally, Police Lieutenant Colonel Kathayut Phungdech, deputy superintendent of Samut Prakan Immigration, helped direct the investigative team. Other participating officers included Police Captain Sanchai Saenphan, an inspector attached to Samut Prakan Immigration.
Police Captain Thawin Pholsak and Police Captain Phansawut Saengsingkaew were also identified. Separately, Police Sub-Lieutenant Jamlong Bomkhunthod and Police Sub-Lieutenant Tanin Nakarak participated in the operation. Police Sergeant Jakrapan Thumkham and Police Sergeant Worawat Yotsri were also named. The team established Michael’s location before carrying out the arrest on Thursday.
American handed to Samut Prakan police after Bangkok arrest, with no property seizures announced
However, the Immigration Bureau did not disclose whether Michael resisted arrest or made any statement to officers. No injuries or other incidents were reported during the operation. Furthermore, police did not announce any seizures of business documents, computers, financial records or other property. There was also no confirmation of searches at the company’s registered premises or other business locations.
Following the arrest, Michael was transferred to investigators at Bang Sao Thong Police Station in Samut Prakan province. The station is responsible for pursuing the criminal proceedings connected with the outstanding warrants.
As a result, the American was handed over to the police unit handling the original complaints. However, the Immigration Bureau did not announce whether investigators had questioned him about the unpaid wages.
Nor was there confirmation that Michael had explained the alleged failure to comply with the labour inspector’s order. The reports published on October 16 contained no response from the businessman or his legal representatives.
No immigration offence reported as police pursue American businessman over outstanding warrants
His position concerning the accusations therefore remained undisclosed. Similarly, police provided no information about a bail application, court appearance or subsequent detention order.
The announcement also did not identify any immigration offence committed by Michael. Instead, the arrest was based on outstanding court warrants arising from employment-related accusations. This distinguished the operation from immigration arrests involving visa overstays or unlawful residence. In this case, immigration police were acting to locate a foreign national wanted in an existing criminal investigation.
The operation involved cooperation between officers in Bangkok and Samut Prakan. The warrants originated from Samut Prakan Provincial Court. However, investigators established that the wanted businessman was residing in Bangkok. Accordingly, immigration officers moved into Sukhumvit to carry out the arrest before transferring him to Samut Prakan. The arrest took place almost four months after the first warrant was issued.
The two warrants were issued nearly eight weeks apart. However, investigators have not explained why separate warrants were necessary or whether they concerned different employee complaints. The first was issued on June 22, while the second followed on August 14. Neither had been executed before immigration police located Michael on October 15.
Four months after first warrant, police leave employee claims and labour inspector order unexplained
Consequently, nearly four months had passed since the first warrant was issued. More than two months had also elapsed since the second. Police have not disclosed where Michael was living throughout that period. Nor have they confirmed whether investigators had previously attempted to locate him. There was also no information about earlier police questioning or summons.
Furthermore, the exact date of the first employee complaint remains unknown. The police account did not establish how long the workers had been waiting for their wages. Nor did it disclose whether labour officials had attempted to secure payment before criminal proceedings began. The labour inspector’s order remains another central element of the case.
Michael was accused of failing to comply with that order, alongside the accusations concerning unpaid wages. However, its precise terms were not included in the published reports. The available information therefore does not establish what payment instructions were issued or when compliance was required. Likewise, there was no confirmation of any subsequent agreement between the company and its employees.
The financial accusations remain limited to the reported figure exceeding ฿1 million. Police did not provide a higher confirmed total or identify additional losses. Meanwhile, the company itself remains unidentified in the public accounts of the arrest.
Its directors, shareholders and registered financial information were not disclosed. There was also no announcement concerning the company’s current trading activities.
Police report no further suspects as American company director faces wage claims exceeding ฿1 million
Police have not identified any additional suspects or announced plans for further arrests. Nevertheless, the reported charges use the wording jointly failing to pay wages and jointly disobeying a labour inspector’s order.
The published accounts do not explain whether this refers to another director, company officer or separate legal entity. That question remains unresolved in the information released by investigators.
By Friday, October 16, police had confirmed Michael’s arrest and his transfer to Bang Sao Thong Police Station. The American businessman remained accused of jointly failing to pay employees correctly and on time. In addition, he faced the accusation of jointly failing to comply with a labour inspector’s order. Both accusations were connected with proceedings before Samut Prakan Provincial Court.
The Immigration Bureau presented the arrest as part of its wider campaign against wanted foreign nationals. Police Lieutenant General Nophasil Phoolsawat had ordered officers to intensify the pursuit of foreigners avoiding prosecution. Subsequently, Immigration Division 3 and Samut Prakan immigration officers located Michael at his Sukhumvit residence. The operation ended with his arrest on October 15, almost four months after the first court warrant.
Meanwhile, investigators at Bang Sao Thong Police Station took responsibility for the next stage of the case. No court ruling, plea or response from the American businessman had been announced in reports published on October 16. The reported wage losses remained above ฿1 million, while the precise number of affected employees was still undisclosed. Furthermore, no date for the next court hearing has been publicly confirmed.
