The General Operations Force detained a 49-year-old man for allegedly smuggling 20 cows from Thailand for RM150 per delivery.

The suspect was arrested in Pasir Mas during a joint operation by the GOF and Kelantan Veterinary Services Department.

The case is under investigation for violations of the Animals Act 1953, with intensified patrols to prevent further livestock smuggling.

KOTA BHARU, Oct 18 — The General Operations Force (GOF) detained a 49-year-old man on suspicion of s smuggling 20 cows from Thailand for a payment claim of about RM150 for each delivery.

Its Southeast Brigade commander, SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the male suspect claimed to have been working with an employer for the past year.

He said the man was arrested in an operation by the GOF Strike Force Battalion 9, with the assistance of the Kelantan Veterinary Services Department (JPV), on Jalan Kampung Lubuk Kawah, Pasir Mas, at 11.30pm yesterday.

“An inspection of the lorry he was driving found 20 cows, but the driver failed to present valid documents related to the transfer of the livestock,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ahmad Radzi said the investigation revealed that the man informed them that the cows were taken from Kampung Tok Rusa before being sent to a cow pen in Lubok Jong, Pasir Mas.

He said the cows were seized because they were suspected to have been smuggled from Thailand through an unregistered route.

“The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Animals Act 1953, while the arrest and seizure have been handed over to the Kelantan JPV for further action,” he also said.

Ahmad Radzi added that the GOF will continue to intensify patrols, inspections, and monitoring to combat the smuggling of livestock from Thailand through illegal bases and unregistered routes in its area of responsibility. — Bernama
