A total of 156 flood victims from 50 families are currently housed in relief centres in the Larut, Matang, and Selama district as of 8 pm.

The Western Fleet Command has deployed 100 Royal Malaysian Navy personnel to assist with humanitarian aid and disaster relief on Pulau Pangkor following flash floods.

The cleanup efforts, involving multiple agencies, are concentrated on SK Seri Pangkor, a mosque, and residents' homes affected by thick mud from the floods.

IPOH, Oct 19 —A total of 156 flood victims from 50 families are seeking shelter at relief centres (PPS) in the Larut, Matang and Selama district as of 8pm yesterday.

In a statement, the Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said 100 victims from 29 families were housed at the PPS at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Matang Gelugor, up from 90 victims from 27 families recorded at 4pm.

The centre was opened to accommodate residents affected by flooding in Kampung Matang Pasir and Kampung Matang Gelugor.

Meanwhile, 56 victims from 21 families remain at the PPS at SK Matang following a storm that affected residents in Kampung Changkat Baru Matang, Kampung Teluk Kertam, Kampung Melawati and Kampung Hujung Matang.

Separately, the Western Fleet Command (MPA Barat) has deployed 100 personnel from the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base in Lumut to assist with humanitarian aid and disaster relief following flash floods in several areas on Pulau Pangkor earlier today.

In a statement, MPA Barat’s Strategic Communications Division said the mission, led by Chief Staff Officer for Operations Commander Abdul Manan Mazlan, involved three Fast Combat Boats (FCB) and two rigid-hull inflatable boats (RHIB) to transport personnel and deliver aid to affected areas.

An RMN helicopter is also on standby to provide aerial support if required.

The RMN has prepared 300 food packs and 425 bottles of mineral water for distribution to personnel involved in cleanup operations, including navy personnel, teachers, private individuals and representatives from various government agencies.

The cleanup efforts are focused on SK Seri Pangkor, as well as a mosque and residents’ homes severely affected by the floods and covered in thick layers of mud.

MPA Barat said it and all units under its command at the RMN Lumut Base remained committed to supporting recovery efforts in the affected areas through close cooperation and coordination with relevant agencies.

The statement said the commitment reflected the RMN’s role beyond safeguarding the nation’s maritime sovereignty, including contributing to public safety and well-being during disasters. — Bernama
