National carrier Singapore Airlines (SIA) has appointed Singtel chairman Lee Theng Kiat and Carlsberg chairman Henrik Poulsen to its board, with effect from Oct 19 (Monday).

Lee, 73, will serve as a non-independent, non-executive director, and join the board's executive committee and board safety and risk committee.

Meanwhile, Poulsen, 59, will also serve as an independent, non-executive director, and will join the board safety and risk committee from Feb 15 next year.

A lawyer by training, Lee served in the Singapore Legal Service for over eight years and was a senior legal officer with the Ministry of Defence before joining the Singapore Technologies group of companies in 1985.

He held senior positions overseeing legal matters and strategic business development, before becoming concurrently president and chief executive officer (CEO) of STT Communications and Singapore Technologies Telemedia.

The 73-year-old joined Temasek in 2012 and held key leadership roles, including as president and CEO of Temasek International, before retiring from his executive role in 2021.

Lee helped shape Temasek's strategic direction, strengthen its institutional capabilities and guide the organisation through transformation and growth.

He is currently chairman of Singapore Telecommunications (Singtel) and Singapore Energy Interconnections, and a director on the boards of Temasek Holdings and Temasek Capital China Holdings.

Poulsen was CEO and president of Orsted between 2012 and 2020, where he led the company's transformation from a fossil fuel-focused business into a global leader in offshore wind energy.

Under his stewardship, Orsted's offshore capacity more than doubled, while its oil and gas assets were divested and the company underwent a major rebranding.

The 59-year-old was appointed chaiman of the supervisory board of Carlsberg in March 2022, after first joining as a member in 2021.

He is also chairman of the boards of Faerch, a global leader in circular food packaging and integrated tray-to-tray recycling, and payment solutions provider Flatpay.

Earlier in June this year, Singapore Airlines also announced the appointment of corporate lawyer Adrian Chan Pengee as an independent non-executive director of its board.
