Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng is on a six-day visit to France and Italy from Oct 18 (Sunday).

He is leading a parliamentary delegation, comprising MPs Sharael Taha (Pasir Ris-Changi GRC), Pritam Singh (Aljunied GRC), Cassandra Lee (West Coast-Jurong West), and Dr Charlene Chen (Tampines GRC), to Strasbourg, France, Rome and Vatican City.

"The visit aims to strengthen inter-parliamentary ties and deepen Singapore’s engagement with European institutions," the Clerk of Parliament said in a statement on Sunday.

In Strasbourg, the delegation will meet the President of European Parliament Roberta Metsola, and chair of the European Parliament's committee on foreign affairs David McAllister.

These meetings will provide opportunities to reaffirm inter-parliamentary ties and exchange views on regional and international developments.

During the Strasbourg leg of their visit, the delegation will also visit the European Parliament and observe a plenary session, visit the Council of Europe and the Strasbourg Mayoralty, and engage with other members of the European Parliament.

The delegation will then head to Rome, where they will meet the President of the Chamber of Deputies Lorenzo Fontana.

They will also meet member of the Chamber of Deputies of Italy Ciro Maschio, who also chairs the bilateral friendship section Italy-Southeast Asia, and other Italian parliamentarians.

Before leaving Rome, Seah is scheduled to attend a dinner with Singaporeans based there, reinforcing the people-to-people links between the two countries.

"The engagements will provide opportunities to strengthen parliamentary relations between Singapore and Italy and exchange views on issues of mutual interest," the Clerk of Parliament said.

The Singapore delegation will then visit Vatican City, where they will be meeting with Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Secretary for Relations with States and International Relations Archbishop Paul Richard Gallager.

"These engagements will reaffirm the warm relations between Singapore and the Holy See and provide opportunities to exchange views on regional and global developments.

"The visit will also advance parliamentary, and people-to-people exchanges," the Clerk of Parliament said.
