One of seven police land divisions — Tanglin Police Division — has a new commander, with Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Lee Huan Ting taking over the role on Oct 19.

SAC Lee, 38, took over from 57-year-old Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheong Chee Meng, who will be retiring after 32 years of service in the force.

The new Tanglin commander joined the Singapore Police Force in 2007 and has held various key appointments over the past 19 years such as deputy commander of Central Police Division, head of technical research in the Police Intelligence Department, and commanding officer of Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre.

SAC Lee has also completed postings in the Ministry of Home Affairs, and more recently, as the Ministry of Digital Development and Information's director of information policy.

Outgoing commander SAC Cheong has held several key appointments in his career, including as Commander of Airport Police Division, and director of the International Cooperation Department at police headquarters.

The police said that Tanglin Police Division maintained strong operational readiness under SAC Cheong, who led numerous enforcement operations to combat illegal and criminal activities within his jurisdiction.

These include the swift arrest of three foreign nationals involved in a series of housebreaking and theft at the private residential estates along Cluny Park, Dunearn Close and Eng Neo Avenue in May 2025, and the arrest of a British woman for a series of cheating cases in March 2025 after she appeared in a Netflix documentary of scammers .

Most recently, the police land division arrested five Filipinos in a case of "bump and steal" from a man who had just exchanged currency of about $155,600 from a moneychanger near Orchard underpass.

He is also credited with leading his officers through deployments for major security operations such as the General Elections, presidential election, annual Shangri-La Dialogue, year-end Christmas celebrations at Orchard, and the National Day Parade.

"The success of these major deployments required extensive security planning, traffic management, and close coordination with other Police units and partner agencies," the police noted in its statement.

SAC Cheong thanked volunteers, community partners and his officers for their collective commitment to keeping Singapore safe.
