Construction of the Nabawan district police headquarters and housing, costing RM150 million, is set to start in January 2027 to enhance security and public services.

Sabah Chief Minister emphasised the need for the project to meet integrity and compliance standards to maximise benefits for the public and police personnel.

Strengthening police capabilities in Nabawan is vital due to its strategic border location, addressing cross-border crimes and ensuring front-line personnel welfare.

KOTA KINABALU, Oct 20 — The construction of the Nabawan district police headquarters (IPD) and police housing project, with an allocation ceiling of RM150 million, is expected to begin in January 2027, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the infrastructure project aimed to strengthen security capabilities, law enforcement and service delivery to the public, particularly in Nabawan and surrounding areas.

He added that the project must be implemented with integrity and in compliance with the stipulated specifications and standards to ensure maximum benefits for the public and Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel.

“We do not merely want to see this project completed, but also want to ensure that it delivers long-term benefits,” he said in a statement after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nabawan IPD and police housing project today.

Also present were Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail, Sabah State Secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman and Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun.

Hajiji said the construction of the Nabawan IPD was crucial given the district’s strategic location along the border with Indonesia, which required stronger security capabilities to address cross-border crime and illegal activities.

He said these threats called for integrated, effective and continuous enforcement efforts, including strengthening the PDRM in terms of personnel, infrastructure, operational facilities and administrative systems.

According to Hajiji, the Nabawan police station, established in 1976, currently comes under the administration of the Keningau IPD, although Nabawan has an administrative area of about 6,089 square kilometres.

“Given the size of the administrative area, the need for a more structured policing system suited to current security demands warrants serious attention.

“The development of the Nabawan IPD is an important step towards strengthening the police presence and policing capabilities in the area,” he said.

Hajiji also described the project as a manifestation of the government’s unwavering concern for the welfare, comfort and safety of front-line personnel.

“Providing a conducive infrastructure equipped with the latest technological facilities is no longer a luxury, but a critical necessity, particularly in border areas,” he said. — Bernama
