A CENTURIES-OLD matrimonial custom in Chinese culture has found a modern expression with the launch of what is said to be Malaysia’s first wedding mattress.

The ‘With Love, Getha – Wedding & Celebration Collection’ was unveiled at Gurney Plaza, George Town, on Wednesday, where it was officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) as the “First Chinese Wedding Mattress in Malaysia”.

The launch brings the traditional preparation of the matrimonial bed, known as an chuang into the realm of contemporary sleep products, giving the mattress itself a role in a wedding tradition that has traditionally centred on the bed and its preparation.

An chuang is carried out before a couple begins married life, with customs varying between families and dialect groups.

The practice is generally associated with wishes for happiness, harmony, prosperity and a good beginning for the newlyweds.

The collection is now available at all Getha Sleep Therapy Centres, Getha Authorised Dealers and the Getha Online Store. The wedding mattresses feature a distinctive and luxurious red lining along the side, together with an embroidered double-happiness symbol, while retaining the core features and sleep technologies of Getha’s Transforme Miracle Latex series.

Couples can embroider their names and wedding dates on the mattress or opt for a fully customised panel featuring their own wedding logo or design.

For Malaysians who are already married or are not getting married, Getha has also introduced the ‘With Blessing’ Getha series, which replaces the double-happiness symbol with other options representing love, wealth and prosperity, money and wealth, as well as blessings, good fortune and happiness.

As an added touch, Getha customers can personalise their wedding mattresses with embroidered names and dates positioned above and below the Double Happiness or Blessing symbol.

For those seeking something truly unique, Getha also offers a fully customised embroidery panel, allowing couples to incorporate their own personalised wedding logo or bespoke design, making each mattress a meaningful keepsake of their special union.
