KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have launched a corpse abandonment investigation after the body of a newborn baby was discovered at a local garbage collection point in Yokohama City, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 21).

At approximately 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, a city sanitation worker collecting trash in the Mitakedai area of Aoba Ward dialed police to report a grim discovery, telling dispatchers they had found “something resembling the body of a fetus.”

According to police, the remains belong to an infant boy. He was discovered inside a garbage collection box with his umbilical cord still attached. Authorities noted that the body had already begun to show signs of partial decomposition.

The discovery has sent shockwaves through the typically quiet neighborhood. “I never imagined something like this could ever happen around here,” one local resident said.

The scene is situated in a residential area near Fujigaoka Station on the Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line. Police are currently working to track down whoever is responsible for abandoning the infant.
