The Selangor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living uncovered RM133,950 worth of misappropriated subsidised cooking oil in Port Klang.

The raid revealed that subsidised cooking oil was mixed with used oil for resale, involving a suspect holding a valid license.

A foreign national was detained under Ops Tiris 4.0, and the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act and AMLATFPUAA 2001.

SHAH ALAM, Oct 21 — The Selangor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has successfully uncovered the misappropriation of subsidised controlled goods specifically one-kilogramme (kg) packets of cooking oil following a raid on a premises in the Port Klang area, with the seized items valued at RM133,950.

Selangor KPDN director Muhamad Hanif Asa’ari said the suspected modus operandi involved bringing the packets of cooking oil to the premises, where they were mixed with used cooking oil in a dedicated storage tank.

He added that this mixture was allegedly kept for resale to companies that process used cooking oil, or distributed via the black market, in order to generate excessive profits.

“This activity is also believed to involve supplies sourced from parties suspected of holding valid licenses for scheduled controlled goods (CSA). The raid uncovered a large quantity of boxes containing packeted cooking oil, as well as plastic packets that had already been cut open.

“Approximately 15,900 kg of cooking oil, along with various equipment used in this operation including a lorry have been seized for further investigation,” he said yesterday.

Muhamad Hanif stated that the raid was conducted under the integrated ‘Ops Tiris 4.0’ which also involved the Marine Police and resulted in the detention of a foreign national in his 30s, who was employed at the premises, to assist with the investigation.

He added that the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 [Act 122] and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA 2001) [Act 613].

“The Selangor KPDN will not compromise with any party found to be involved in such syndicates or illicit activities. We will continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement efforts to ensure that no one exploits or misappropriates subsidised controlled goods intended for the public,” he said. — Bernama
