A 24-year-old female pedestrian was injured while waiting at a signalised pedestrian crossing in Jalan Besar, after an accident involving a car and a van.

The accident happened at about 10.20pm on Wednesday (Oct 21) on Jalan Besar towards Bencoolen Street, opposite Jalan Besar Plaza.

Photographs of the aftermath seen by AsiaOne show a van belonging to Newway Air Conditioning crashed into a traffic light. Its front front bumper and radiator grill are dislodged and are lying on the footpath.

The impact caused the light to be tilted to a 30- to 40-deg angle, almost falling over.

The car is not seen in the pictures.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police stated that a 33-year-old male car driver is now assisting with investigations.

They said that the female pedestrian was taken conscious to hospital.

Meanwhile, the 41-year-old male van driver sustained minor injuries, but he refused to be taken to hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.
