Residents, workers and students in all five Singapore regions are breathing better on Friday (Oct 23) morning.

At 9am, hourly PM2.5 readings were in the normal band. Concentration readings of between 0 and 55µg/m3 are in the normal band.

The highest concentration reading of 44µg/m3 was recorded in western Singapore, while the lowest reading of 25µg/m3 was in the northern region.

Meanwhile, PSI ranged from 67 in the northern region to 90 in western Singapore.

Haze outlook, weather forecast

According to the Meteorological Service Singapore, thundery showers are expected mainly over the northern, eastern and western regions in the afternoon.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said in its daily haze situation update on Thursday evening that the country's 24-hour PSI forecast is between 101 and 150 — in the unhealthy range.

Given the prevailing south-easterly or southerly winds, smoke haze may still be transported towards Singapore on Friday and Saturday.

But showers over Singapore and its vicinity could help with the situation, it added.

The haze condition is expected to improve on Sunday due to showers and favourable winds, NEA added.

Second wave of N95 haze mask distribution

On Thursday, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu also announced that a second wave of mask distribution will begin on Friday , expanding eligibility to Singaporeans aged 60 and above.

They will be able to collect a second pack of two masks from community clubs (CCs) or mask vending machines from Oct 23.

Those eligible in the first wave, but have yet to collect their masks, can now collect four masks at any CC.
