Tree outside Margaret Drive Hawker Centre catches fire, no injuries reported

A tree at a courtyard outside Margaret Drive Hawker Centre in Queenstown caught fire on Thursday (Oct 23) evening but did not result in any injuries.

The incident happened at about 6.50pm at Block 38A Margaret Drive.

Videos of the incident posted on social media show flames on a branch of the tree even though it appears to have been recently trimmed.

Flames were concentrated on just the branch and did not spread elsewhere.

It is unclear how the branch caught fire.

Firefighters responding to the incident were seen using the hawker centre's staircase to get to a high point, from which, they later used a hose reel and water jet to put out the fire.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force told AsiaOne that there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
