FairPrice Foundation will provide $3 million to Hao Ren Hao Shi over three years, FairPrice Group announced on Saturday (Oct 24).

The pledged amount is part of a three-year partnership with the local charity that aims to improve access to fresh groceries and daily essentials for more than 126,000 low-income beneficiaries.

This includes basic dry goods, fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk, and household items such as detergent and hand soap.

About 1,200 Hao Ren Hao Shi Mobile Groceries and Happy Mart distributions will be supported by 1,000 corporate and frontline volunteers from FairPrice Group.

Additionally, Unity pharmacists will participate in selected community distributions to provide free blood pressure checks and basic wellness advice.

A Mobile Groceries distribution at Block 158 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 on Saturday saw 100 volunteers give essentials such as eggs and milk - as well as a Wellness Pack by Unity containing supplements - to over 300 beneficiaries.

Hao Ren Hao Shi's longstanding distributions have already proven helpful to many families.

Aisyah, a 33-year-old call centre agent and mother of two, said the monthly distributions help her provide for her family.

She said that she struggles to find time to cook for her children, so she prepares meals in advance to make sure they have a healthy dinner.

"Having the grocery truck come to our block takes a huge load off my monthly budget," she said.

Low, 80, also commented: "As I live alone, I will collect groceries such as eggs, bread, rice and oil to supplement my daily cooking.

"As I have been retired from working for many years, this initiative helps me to save money and I also get to catch up with my neighbours during the distributions."

Lim, who lives with his wife in a rental flat in Toa Payoh, said that he has been receiving daily essentials from Hao Ren Hao Shi's Mobile Groceries initiative for eight years.

"My wife cooks daily so being able to collect produce such as vegetables and eggs really help to ease our grocery budget," the 71-year-old said.

FairPrice Foundation general manager Jean Khong said that many families face difficulties putting nutritious meals on the table while juggling rising household expenses.

Describing good nutrition as a "cornerstone of community well-being", Khong said: "This is why we support communities at different stages of life, from young children to seniors.

"Through our partnership with Hao Ren Hao Shi, we hope to make everyday essentials and fresh, nutritious food more accessible to families right here in our heartlands, easing some of their daily worries and helping them eat better."

Hao Ren Hao Shi founder and chairman Anson Ng expressed gratitude to FairPrice Foundation for its support.

"Beyond essential provisions, we are creating meaningful opportunities for youth and volunteers to experience the joy of giving back and build a more compassionate Singapore together," he said.
