Air quality in Singapore improved ahead of Sunday (Oct 25) activities as hourly PM2.5 readings islandwide dropped back into the normal band (0 - 55 µg/m3) by 8am.

The northern, central and southern readings were back in the normal band at 7am, with the eastern and western regions doing so an hour later.

At 9am, hourly concentration readings across Singapore ranged from 28 in the western region to 49 in the central region.

Meanwhile, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) remains in the unhealthy range, for now.

In its daily haze situation update on Saturday evening, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said the country's 24-hour PSI is forecast to be between 80 and 130 — in the moderate to unhealthy range.

Thundery showers over many areas of Singapore on Sunday afternoon, along with winds forecast to turn to blow from the southeast or west, means the transport of smoke haze to Singapore could be limited, the agency added.

On the haze situation for Monday and Tuesday, NEA said: "The haze situation is likely to improve."

This, it explained, is due to the forecast of showers and prevailing winds.

Members of the public are advised to check the latest hourly PM2.5 readings before participating in any outdoor activites.
