Singapore man rapes daughter, then gives himself up after spotting her at neighbourhood police centre

A 15-year-old girl reported to police after being raped by her father, who later surrendered.

The father pleaded guilty to rape, with additional charges of criminal breach of trust and voyeurism.

Prosecutors seek up to 14 years, nine months' imprisonment; defence requests a sentence of 13 years, five months.

SINGAPORE, Sept 7 — A 15‑year‑old girl ran to a neighbourhood police centre after her father raped her while he was taking a shower.

The man later walked past the station while searching for her, saw her inside, returned home to change into jeans, and then surrendered to officers, according to a Straits Times report.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Eric Hu told the High Court that the victim had endured years of physical abuse, saying she believed “it was normal for him to use violence against her”.

The 51‑year‑old pleaded guilty to rape, outrage of modesty and criminal breach of trust (CBT), with additional CBT and voyeurism charges to be considered at sentencing on November 2.

Investigators found he had taken two obscene photos of the girl between 2021 and 2023 and had embezzled S$23,000 from his employer while serving as general manager.

The misappropriation surfaced only after his arrest on August 11, 2024, when police began probing the sexual offences.

He has past convictions for cheating, CBT and moneylending offences, including a five‑year corrective training term imposed in 2009.

The court heard that on August 10, 2024, he became enraged over the cleanliness of their home, swept items off the dining table and ordered the girl to her room.

He dismantled the CCTV cameras before going to bed that night.

The next morning, he lifted her blanket when she did not respond to him, molested her and raped her while she remained still out of fear.

She fled to the police station once he entered the shower.

The prosecution sought between 13 years and eight months and 14 years and nine months’ jail, plus 18 to 24 weeks’ imprisonment in lieu of nine to 11 strokes of the cane.

He cannot be caned because he is over 50 years old.

Defence lawyer Gregory Fong asked for a sentence of 13 years and five months.
