Marina Bay pursuit: Driver fleeing traffic police stop hits another car, patrol vehicles

A 43-year-old man will be charged in court on Tuesday (Oct 27) for his alleged involvement in multiple traffic offences, including dangerous driving causing hurt, driving without a valid driving licence and failing to stop when ordered to do so by a police officer.

Police said on Monday night that the incident started at about 3.05am on Sunday along Raffles Boulevard.

The man inched his car forward when asked to stop for checks, forcing the officers to step aside.

He then sped away, prompting a vehicle pursuit.

During the ensuing chase, the man stopped his car behind another vehicle at a traffic light junction along Bayfront Avenue.

As a police patrol vehicle pulled up beside his car, he attempted to force his way through — between the stationary vehicle and the patrol vehicle.

While doing so his car collided with the driver's door of the police patrol vehicle and the rear right bumper of the other vehicle.

He then purportedly fled the scene.

The collision left the driver of the stationary car with back pain and was given three days of medical leave.

Police said the man also ran multiple red lights along Marina Boulevard, Sheares Avenue and Marina Link during the pursuit.

Their investigations revealed that the 43-year-old did not possess a valid driving licence, and the car has since been seized by the police.

He faces a total of six charges in court on Tuesday:

Dangerous driving causing hurt

Failing to stop when ordered by a police officer in uniform

Driving without a valid driving licence

Using a vehicle without insurance coverage

Failing to stop after an accident

Failing to render assistance after an accident

The police warned that those who commit traffic offences without valid driving licences will be dealt with firmly.

"Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspected instances of such activity in their communities. Road safety is everyone's responsibility, and public cooperation is essential in keeping Singapore's roads safe for all users," they added.

警方周一晚间表示，事件发生在周日凌晨3点05分左右，地点位于莱佛士大道。

当被要求停车接受检查时，该男子却慢慢地向前挪动汽车，迫使警官们让开。

随后他加速逃离，引发了一场车辆追逐。

在随后的追逐过程中，该男子将车停在了海湾大道的一个交通信号灯路口，停在了另一辆车后面。

当一辆警用巡逻车停在他的车旁边时，他试图强行从静止的车辆和巡逻车之间穿过。

在此过程中，他的车撞上了警车的驾驶员侧车门和另一辆车的右后保险杠。

随后他据称逃离了现场。

碰撞导致静止车辆的驾驶员背部疼痛，并被给予三天病假。

警方称，在追捕过程中，该男子还沿滨海大道、希尔斯大道和滨海连接路多次闯红灯。

调查显示，这名 43 岁的男子没有有效的驾驶执照，警方已扣押了这辆车。

他将于周二在法庭上面临总共六项指控：

危险驾驶致人受伤

拒不服从身穿制服的警官停车命令。

无有效驾驶执照驾驶

使用未投保的车辆

事故发生后未停车

事故发生后未能提供援助

警方警告说，那些无有效驾驶执照而违反交通规则的人将受到严厉处罚。

他们补充说：“我们敦促公众保持警惕，并举报社区内任何可疑的此类活动。道路安全是每个人的责任，公众的合作对于确保新加坡道路对所有使用者的安全至关重要。”
