SINGAPORE, Oct 27 — A 43-year-old man will be charged in court on Tuesday (October 27) for his alleged involvement in multiple traffic offences, including dangerous driving causing hurt, driving without a valid driving licence and failing to stop when ordered to do so by a police officer.

Police said on Monday night that the incident started at about 3.05am on Sunday along Raffles Boulevard.

The man inched his car forward when asked to stop for checks, forcing the officers to step aside.

He then sped away, prompting a vehicle pursuit.

During the ensuing chase, the man stopped his car behind another vehicle at a traffic light junction along Bayfront Avenue.

As a police patrol vehicle pulled up beside his car, he attempted to force his way through — between the stationary vehicle and the patrol vehicle.

While doing so his car collided with the driver’s door of the police patrol vehicle and the rear right bumper of the other vehicle.

He then purportedly fled the scene.

The collision left the driver of the stationary car with back pain and was given three days of medical leave.

Police said the man also ran multiple red lights along Marina Boulevard, Sheares Avenue and Marina Link during the pursuit.

Their investigations revealed that the 43-year-old did not possess a valid driving licence, and the car has since been seized by the police.

He faces a total of six charges in court on Tuesday:

Dangerous driving causing hurt

Failing to stop when ordered by a police officer in uniform

Driving without a valid driving licence

Using a vehicle without insurance coverage

Failing to stop after an accident

Failing to render assistance after an accident

The police warned that those who commit traffic offences without valid driving licences will be dealt with firmly.

“Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspected instances of such activity in their communities. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and public cooperation is essential in keeping Singapore’s roads safe for all users,” they added. — AsiaOne
