5-hour Bukit Panjang flat standoff ends in arrest of woman for criminal intimidation, insulting police officer

A woman locked herself in a Bukit Panjang flat on Tuesday (Oct 27) evening, prompting a response from the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

After a standoff lasting nearly five hours, police officers entered the unit at Block 270 Bangkit Road.

The 31-year-old woman was arrested for criminal intimidation, using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty, and using offensive language against a public servant, the police told AsiaOne.

Police said they received a call for assistance at 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Officers assessed that the woman, who had locked herself in her residential unit, might pose a danger to herself.

The Crisis Negotiation Unit and SCDF were activated.

The SCDF said in response to AsiaOne's queries that they were alerted to the incident at 7.30pm.

Three safety life air packs were deployed at the foot of the block, and rescuers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team were on standby as a precautionary measure.

Videos circulating online show multiple emergency vehicles at the open-air car park, and officers surrounding the block.

At about 10.20pm, she opened the door and police officers managed to enter the flat, police said.

Investigations are ongoing.

网上流传的视频显示，露天停车场停着多辆紧急车辆，警员包围了该街区。

警方称，晚上10点20分左右，她打开了门，警察得以进入公寓。
