KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the confidence and supply agreement (CSA) signed with the federal government today has nothing to do with a possible electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the Melaka polls, Free Malaysia Today (FMT) reported.

“That is a separate question. That has nothing to do with (the agreement) here,” he was quoted as telling reporters after the signing at Parliament.

According to the news portal, Muhyiddin was responding to a question on whether Bersatu would now form an electoral pact with PH in Melaka.

FMT reported that speculation of a tie-up emerged after leaders from both sides attended a closed-door dinner in Melaka on September 28, though the matter has faced pushback within PH.

Muhyiddin also said the CSA was separate from a similar agreement being sought between Bersatu and the PH-led Selangor government, the report said.

“That is another matter. This agreement is between the federal government, represented by the prime minister, and MPs representing my party and the other parties involved,” he said.

According to FMT, the CSA involved six Bersatu MPs and Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. The MPs are seeking a limit on the prime minister’s tenure and the separation of the roles of the attorney-general and public prosecutor before the end of the government’s term.

They also want the same constituency development allocations that government backbenchers currently receive.

In return, the seven opposition MPs will support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration until the end of the parliamentary term, as well as Budget 2027, the news portal reported.

The six Bersatu MPs who signed are Muhyiddin (Pagoh), Datuk Radzi Jidin (Putrajaya), Ali Biju (Saratok), Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (Langkawi), Nazri Abu Hassan (Merbok) and Azman Nasrudin (Padang Serai).

FMT reported that six former Bersatu MPs, who were sacked in 2024 for declaring support for the government, also signed the deal. Muhyiddin said their signing was merely a formality as they had already expressed support for the prime minister.

He said Bersatu would remain in the opposition and continue to provide checks and balances despite the agreement.

Muhyiddin added that the CSA is expected to remain in force until Parliament is dissolved, but could be terminated if either side failed to honour its commitments.

Separately, Syed Saddiq told FMT the CSA must lead to legislation guaranteeing fair and equal constituency allocations for all MPs, rather than benefiting only those who signed it.

He said the agreement specified that allocations for MPs on both sides must be equal, although the exact amounts had not been disclosed.
