KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 — MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the party has been given an additional seat - Bandar Hilir - to contest in the Melaka State Election.

He said Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) finalised the decision today, with MCA set to contest in three state constituencies, including Machap Jaya and Kelebang.

Wee said its candidate for the Bandar Hilir state seat will be Melaka Historic City Council councillor Jasmine Lok Huey Yee, 38.

“Officially, MCA will contest the two seats that we won in 2021, namely Machap Jaya and Kelebang, and now we have been given an additional seat in Bandar Hilir.

“BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi handed over the letters of appointment for candidates at 4pm today,” he told a media conference at the Parliament Building today.

Wee said the additional seat was part of the process of finalising seat allocations between BN and PN for the Melaka polls.

He said this follows key PN leaders’ willingness to allocate the seat in question to MCA, which had contested the constituency previously, adding that the move would not affect the strategic cooperation between BN and its strategic partners for the state election.

“... (we) received a call from key PN leaders expressing their willingness to allow MCA to contest, as this is a seat we had contested in the past,” he said.

Overall, BN will contest 22 seats at the 16th Melaka polls.

The Election Commission (EC) has set November 14 as the polling day for the Melaka state election, with nomination day scheduled for Saturday (October 31) and early voting for November 10. — Bernama
