TUMPAT, Oct 30 — Police have opened three investigation papers in relation to extreme comments on social media related to enforcement issues that are alleged to threaten public order and tarnish the image of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said a male suspect has been detained in relation to this case, whereas two other cases are under investigation and the suspects have been identified.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The police have never rejected criticism or reprimands aimed at improvement and safeguarding the public’s interest.
“However, action will be taken against statements that are insulting, defamatory, or extreme accusations that can disrupt public order,” he said at a press conference after patrolling the country’s waters at the Region Three Marine Police Force jetty, Pengkalan Kubor, here yesterday.
In related developments, he said that 42 individuals were detained in Kelantan this year for offences under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM).
Of that number, two individuals were detained for human trafficking offences, while the 40 others were involved in migrant smuggling offences.
Mohd Yusoff said that this number of arrests was compared to 59 individuals in 2025 and 51 in 2024.
He added that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will continue to intensify enforcement efforts to combat the smuggling of undocumented migrants and curb the involvement of any parties in such syndicates.
Meanwhile, Mohd Yusoff said that members of the public who receive threats from the illegal immigrant smuggling syndicate in Kelantan are urged to come forward and file a police report to enable an investigation to be conducted and action to be taken against the parties involved.
He said that reporting the incident to the authorities is more effective than merely spreading information or allegations through social media, which can expose the informant to further threats.
The public need not worry too much about coming forward to assist the investigation because witness protection mechanisms are available for cases that meet the criteria, including high-profile cases.
“It is better to report to the police so that we can conduct further investigations, identify the perpetrator and take action, including making arrests to resolve the issue,” he said.
He said that community cooperation is very important in efforts to combat smuggling activities using sea routes, especially in the Malaysia-Thailand border area.
In related developments, Mohd Yusoff said that a total of 4,873 immigrants were detained by various enforcement agencies in Kelantan from January to October this year, with 3,100 of them detained in districts bordering Thailand, including Kota Bharu.
He also said that Myanmar nationals recorded the highest number of arrests, with 1,977 people, followed by Bangladeshi (899), Indonesian (740), and Thais (more than 600), while the rest involved other nationalities, making a total of 26 nationalities involved in the arrests.
Mohd Yusoff added that the number of arrests this year also exceeded the record of 4,166 people for the entire year of 2025 and 3,689 people in 2024, thus showing that enforcement actions against the entry of immigrants continue to be intensified. — Bernama
