A diner has taken to social media to express his dissatisfaction with a dining experience at a Katong eatery, alleging that he was not provided with an itemised breakdown of his bill.
In a post shared on Instagram on Wednesday (Oct 28), the diner, who goes by the name Martin Ng, said he had requested a breakdown of the food items and their respective prices, but claimed that the eatery provided only a receipt showing the total amount.
"Charged $180 for a 10 pax supper, asked for itemised receipt, refused to provide, only gave a lump sum receipt. Avoid this place," wrote Ng, identified the eatery as being located at 240 Tanjong Katong Road.
Based on the images shared on Ng's social media page and checks by AsiaOne, the address corresponds to Heng Long Teochew Porridge.
In the comments section, netizens were divided in their views, with some defending the eatery's pricing while others backed the diner's request for an itemised bill.
"I go there fairly often. It is not cheap compared to an economy rice stall, but the taste is pretty good," commented one netizen.
"Teochew porridge (is) one of the most expensive food in Singapore. Don't expect low pricing meals," added another.
Others, however, questioned the eatery's alleged refusal to provide a breakdown of the bill.
"Heng Long Teochew porridge, not first time. Some other outlet also anyhow charge," said one user.
"Point here is: Please break down the costs. Customers have the right to request to know how much per item costs correct?" questioned another.
AsiaOne has reached out to Heng Long Teochew Porridge and Martin Ng for more information.
