BN ready to invite Perikatan to join state govt if it wins Melaka polls, says Zahid

BAGAN DATUK, Nov 1 — Barisan Nasional (BN) is prepared to invite Perikatan Nasional (PN) to join the state administration if the coalition succeeds in forming the government in the 16th Melaka State Election on November 14.

BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the approach was taken to respect the people’s mandate and the political understanding reached between the two coalitions, similar to what had previously been implemented in Negeri Sembilan.

“As happened in Negeri Sembilan, when the government was formed, we honoured the appointments to ensure that they (PN) were part of the government. The same happened in Melaka when the previous Unity Government was formed, with our partners in PH (Pakatan Harapan) also appointed as state executive councillors (Exco) and deputy Exco members, but they subsequently decided to leave.

“So we will do the same for PN assemblymen who win their respective seats and, God willing, if we form the government, we will also invite them to be part of the state government,” he told a press conference after attending the 2026 Deepavali Santunan Kasih event at Dewan Umno Bagan Datuk here today.

In this election, BN is contesting 23 of the 28 seats up for grabs, while PN is contesting five seats.

The Election Commission has set November 14 as polling day for the Melaka state election, while early voting will take place on November 10.

峇眼拿督，11月1日讯——如果国民阵线（国阵）在11月14日举行的第16届马六甲州选举中成功组建政府，国阵准备邀请国民联盟（国盟）加入州政府。

国阵主席拿督斯里阿末扎希博士表示，采取这种做法是为了尊重人民的授权和两个联盟之间达成的政治谅解，类似于之前在森美兰州实施的做法。

“就像森美兰州的情况一样，政府成立时，我们尊重了这些任命，以确保国民联盟（PN）成为政府的一部分。马六甲州上届团结政府成立时也发生了同样的情况，我们的合作伙伴希望联盟（PH）也被任命为州行政议员和副行政议员，但他们后来决定退出。”

“因此，我们将对赢得各自席位的国民联盟州议员采取同样的做法，如果上帝保佑我们组建政府，我们也会邀请他们加入州政府，”他在今天出席了在巴干拿督巫统大会堂举行的2026年屠妖节关爱活动后举行的新闻发布会上说。

在本次选举中，国阵将竞选28个席位中的23个，而国盟将竞选5个席位。

选举委员会已将11月14日定为马六甲州选举的投票日，提前投票将于11月10日举行。
