Small fire at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital children’s ward quickly extinguished, no injuries

Hospital staff in Ipoh swiftly extinguished a fire involving a respiratory tube dryer in the paediatric ward before firefighters arrived.

The fire, which occurred at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, caused 15 per cent damage to the equipment but resulted in no casualties.

Firefighters ensured safety by ventilating the room and checking for remaining hazards after staff used CO2 extinguishers to put out the fire.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) staff in Ipoh quickly extinguished a fire involving a respiratory tube dryer in the Respiratory and Haemodynamic Unit at the hospital’s paediatric ward on the sixth floor last night.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 11.14pm, according to Astro Awani.

He said 12 firefighters from the Ipoh Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the hospital after the call was received.

“Upon arrival at the scene, it was found that the respiratory tube dryer had been 15 per cent damaged by fire, but there were no casualties.

“The fire had been extinguished by hospital staff using two CO2 fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived,” he said in a statement.

He said the operation commander conducted an assessment and instructed firefighters to ventilate the room by opening the door and monitor the area to ensure there were no remaining hazards that could cause the fire to reignite.

The operation, led by Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Johari Tomin, ended at 12.09am.
