MELAKA, Nov 2 — Perikatan Nasional (PN) was not involved in negotiations for the confidence-and-supply agreement (CSA) signed by six Bersatu MPs with the federal government and will not enter such a deal merely to secure constituency allocations, its secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said.

Utusan Malaysia reported today that Takiyuddin said the agreement was a decision by the lawmakers involved and did not represent PN’s official position as an opposition bloc.

“The CSA was their own choice as MPs. Coincidentally, those who joined the CSA are from groups that are not actively involved in PN, namely Bersatu itself, former Bersatu members who previously switched parties, and Muda,” he told Utusan Malaysia .

“So, PN was not involved in the negotiations or the signing. We were not involved,” he added.

Six Bersatu MPs led by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin signed the CSA on October 29 alongside Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and six former Bersatu MPs who now sit as independents.

Under the agreement, the participating Bersatu MPs agreed to support Budget 2027, while the government agreed to provide them with constituency development allocations equal to those received by government MPs.

The agreement also covers proposed institutional reforms, including limiting the prime minister’s tenure to two terms and separating the roles of the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor.

Takiyuddin also told Utusan Malaysia that Bersatu’s decision to use its own logo in the November 14 Melaka state election had neither been formally communicated to PN nor received the coalition’s approval.

He said PN’s constitution allows component parties to contest under their own logos with the coalition’s consent, adding that PN was examining possible disciplinary matters involving Bersatu.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali had earlier confirmed that the party would use its own logo in the state election, saying the decision had been approved by Muhyiddin and communicated to the Election Commission.

Separately, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said welcomed proposals to expand the CSA to other opposition parties, saying broader cross-party cooperation could help build parliamentary consensus for institutional reforms.

PKR information chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, meanwhile, responded to criticism of the CSA from PAS by pointing out that Malaysia’s previous cross-party agreement was signed in 2021 when PAS was part of the federal Cabinet.
