SINGAPORE – Bookstore Kinokuniya’s flagship outlet at Takashimaya S hopping C entre in Orchard was shuttered for hours in the afternoon on Nov 2 following a fire in a locker room .
At around 4.20pm, the chain announced on Facebook that its Takashimaya outlet, the main store in Singapore, will be closed on Nov 2 due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
This was followed by another post at about 6.30pm, which announced operations at the store have resumed.
The Straits Times observed officers from the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) outside the store at around 5pm, with employees standing outside the shuttered store, whose lights were still on.
In response to media queries, the SCDF said it was alerted to a fire at 391A Orchard Road at about 3pm, which is the address of Takashimaya department store.
According to SCDF, the fire involved personal items in a locker room in a fourth-floor unit. The Kinokuniya store there is located on the fourth floor of the shopping mall .
SCDF said its officers extinguished the fire with an extinguisher, and that no injuries were reported from the incident.
It added that the cause of fire is under investigation.

新加坡——11月2日下午，纪伊国屋书店位于乌节路高岛屋购物中心的旗舰店因更衣室发生火灾而关闭数小时。
下午 4 点 20 分左右，该连锁店在 Facebook 上宣布，由于“不可预见的情况”，其位于新加坡的高岛屋总店将于 11 月 2 日关闭。
随后在下午 6 点 30 分左右又发布了一条消息，宣布该商店已恢复营业。
《海峡时报》记者下午 5 点左右看到警察和新加坡民防部队 (SCDF) 的人员在商店外，员工们站在关门的商店外，商店的灯还亮着。
针对媒体的询问，新加坡民防部队表示，下午3点左右接到报警称乌节路391A号发生火灾，该地址正是高岛屋百货商店所在地。
据新加坡民防部队称，火灾涉及四楼一间更衣室内的个人物品。纪伊国屋书店就位于该购物中心的四楼。
新加坡民防部队表示，其人员使用灭火器扑灭了火灾，事件中无人受伤。
声明还补充说，火灾原因正在调查中。
