KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — The High Court today reportedly struck out a lawsuit by the family of the late former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin and two lawyers seeking to halt a police investigation into an alleged plot to overthrow the government.

According to Free Malaysia Today , Justice Indra Nehru Savandiah allowed the government’s application to strike out the suit after finding that it disclosed no reasonable cause of action.

The judge reportedly found insufficient evidence to support the plaintiffs’ claim that the police investigation, conducted under Section 124B of the Penal Code, was carried out in bad faith.

She also found that allegations that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s public remarks had influenced the investigation were speculative and unsupported by facts, the report said.

The plaintiffs were Daim’s widow, Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid, their sons Amir and Amin, and lawyers Amir Zharif Abdullah and Nizamuddin Hamid, who had named Anwar, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and the government as defendants.

The court reportedly made no order as to costs, while Indra said full grounds of judgment would be provided if an appeal was filed.

The plaintiffs were represented by Abraham Au and Gurdial Singh Nijar, while senior federal counsel Sallehuddin Ali and Solehheen Zaki appeared for the government, according to the report.

The investigation was launched following a police report lodged on February 26 alleging that an influential local figure had collaborated with international media organisations in an attempt to undermine the government.

Na’imah subsequently denied involvement in any attempt to overthrow the government, describing the allegations as false and claiming that the complainant was a disgruntled former employee.

On March 3, Anwar told Parliament that preliminary police investigations indicated that a group of Malaysians had worked with foreign parties to destabilise the government through international media and institutions.
