A Singapore Customs video has been making its rounds online, after the agency's chief recreated an iconic Tamil film-style entrance with dramatic angles and plenty of "aura".

The viral clip features the director-general of Singapore Customs walking out to "Hukum Reloaded", the theme song from popular Tamil move franchise, Jailer.

The reel recreates one of the franchise's most recognisable scenes, with the customs chief paying homage to the film's protagonist, "Tiger" Muthuvel Pandian IPS, a charismatic police warden played by Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth.

Flanked by officers on either side, the director-general strides forward before the reel ends with the caption: "The entrance is reel, Customs work is real."

As of Tuesday evening (Nov 3), the video had amassed nearly 1 million views.

The reel rides on the renewed popularity of the Jailer franchise, following the Oct 15 release of Jailer 2.

Followers and viewers appeared to enjoy Singapore Customs' take on the famous entry scene, with the reel even earning a shout-out from local rapper Yung Raja.

Other agencies trend-jacking with Kollywood BGMs

Singapore Customs isn't the first agency to pick-up on the trend.

Last year, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) posted a reel featuring the different officers on duty during the National Day Parade.

The reel featured uniformed officers walking out with their backs to the camera, in their various elements, to another trending Tamil theme song from hit Kollywood film, Coolie.

In a similar vein, SPF released another reel during Deepavali last year, in collaboration with their colleagues from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Singapore Prison Service (SPS) and the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).

The video featured officers from each agency making star-worthy entrances before culminating in an appearance by Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam.

That reel featured another recognisable Thalapathy theme song, typically used in entrances by former Tamil-movie actor, C Joseph Vijay.

Both videos received high praise from viewers, including many unfamiliar with the tradition of using Tamil film theme songs for dramatic entrances.

Whether it's Singapore Customs, SPF or other uniformed agencies, one thing is clear: Social media users are more likely to engage when public agencies show a lighter side of themselves.

And if recent reactions are anything to go by, a well-timed Tamil movie soundtrack, a hero-style entrance and some "aura-maxxing" may be all it takes to get netizens talking.
