A total of 306 flood victims from 59 families are sheltered at three temporary centres in Sungai Buloh due to early morning floods.

Flooding caused a bridge collapse on Jalan Utama Kampung Kubu Gajah, closing the main route between local villages for safety.

Authorities have provided alternative routes and estimate riverbank repairs will take two to three weeks, urging public vigilance.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 — A total of 306 victims from 59 families are still taking shelter at three temporary evacuation centres (PPS) in Sungai Buloh as of 2pm today following floods that hit their homes early this morning.

Sungai Buloh District Police Chief Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said all the affected victims are from Kampung Kubu Gajah, Kampung Merbau Sempak, Kampung Paya Jaras Hilir, Kampung Paya Jaras Dalam, and the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) Low-Cost Housing.

He said all the victims have been placed at three PPS: the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Dewan Seri Pagi, Sekolah Kebangsaan Merbau Sempak in Sungai Buloh, and Dewan Siantan in Kampung Melayu Subang.

“The Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters (IPD) received 356 police reports from victims affected by the flood incident as of 2pm.

“The flood incident also caused damage to the riverbank near the bridge on Jalan Utama Kampung Kubu Gajah, affecting its structural stability before the bridge eventually collapsed,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Hafiz said following the incident, the main route connecting Kampung Kubu Gajah and Kampung Paya Jaras Hilir has been fully closed for safety reasons.

He noted that the Petaling District Public Works Department (JKR) has provided alternative routes via Jalan Merbau Sempak from Federal Route 54 (FT54) to Kampung Kubu Gajah, as well as Jalan Paya Jaras Hilir from FT54 to Kampung Paya Jaras Hilir.

“Repair works for the damaged riverbank are estimated to take between two to three weeks,” he said.

He also advised the public to remain vigilant, comply with authorities’ instructions, use the designated alternative routes, avoid risky areas, and obtain up-to-date and authentic information due to the ongoing North-east Monsoon phenomenon. — Bernama
