'Thanks for helping uncle': Woman wins praise online for helping elderly man after his motorbike breaks down

TikTok user stonecoldrbf has won praise online after helping an elderly motorcyclist whose bike broke down at a busy traffic junction near Geylang Bahru MRT Station.

The video has since racked up more than 240,000 views and over 15,000 likes on TikTok since it was uploaded in October.

The rider, whose TikTok page primarily features footage of her experiences as a motorbike rider in Singapore, was filming herself approaching a traffic junction, when she noticed an elderly man on a motorbike as well.

Noticing that his helmet was hanging from the side of his motorcycle rather than being worn, she sensed something was wrong and realised the bike's fuel injector warning light was flashing, suggesting a mechanical fault.

In her video, the elderly man can be seen attempting to restart his bike by physically pushing it, but to no avail.

She gets off the bike to help, while apologising to motorists behind, as the traffic lights had turned green.

He then tells her that he could not push the bike, and she instinctively helps him move it onto the pavement nearby.

Mixed reactions from viewers

Some viewers commented on her video, reflecting their concerns about elderly drivers and riders on the road.

One commenter even shared about how this incident reminded him of his late father and how he was unable to ride his motorbike in his old age.

But most commenters focused on the rider's act of kindness, thanking her for helping a stranger and commending her initiative in ensuring the elderly man's safety.

"Thanks for helping uncle," said one, while another added, "Thank you for restoring faith in humanity."

One commenter even acknowledged he was a commuter in the bus nearby and had witnessed what had happened, thanking the female rider for stopping and helping him.

Asiaone has since reached out to her for more information.
