Govt & Opposition ‘Committee’ issue set for a showdown

Government led by Bhumjai Thai party and the opposition led by People’s Party are set for a showdown as Bhumjai Thai plans to amend the laws governing the various committees that scrutinizes the government’s working.

Bhumjai Thai Party is scheduled to propose a significant amendment to the House of Representatives’ meeting regulations during the parliamentary session on November 11. The proposed changes aim to address current legislative challenges and improve overall operational efficiency by updating several key procedures and committee guidelines.

The proposal includes shifting how committee chairpersons and deputy chairpersons are selected. Instead of distributing quotas proportionally based on the number of MPs from each political party, the new rule would use a majority vote system or secret ballot and allow the House to adjust the total number of standing committees as appropriate.

Additionally, the guidelines for summoning officials or individuals to provide testimony before a committee would require approval from a majority vote of all existing committee members.

Other notable changes involve tightening transparency and accountability measures for parliamentary panels. Under the proposed regulations, committee meetings must be open to the public unless more than half of the members vote for a closed session, and live broadcasting of meetings would also require majority approval. The amendment mandates that the Prime Minister or relevant ministers must attend parliament sessions in person to answer interpellation questions, closing loopholes that previously allowed them to bypass or indefinitely delay responses.

Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, a party-list MP and leader of the People’s Party—who also serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives—along with Abhisit Vejjajiva, a party-list MP and leader of the Democrat Party, held a joint press conference titled “Obstruction and Intimidation of the Opposition’s Oversight Duties.”

They raised concerns that the government—or those wielding power within the “blue-regime” are leveraging every mechanism under their control to obstruct, interfere with, and intimidate the opposition as it carries out its legislative duty to provide checks and balances against the executive branch. The specific issues raised include:

Requiring all 35 standing committees to reach a formal resolution before taking action is seen as an attempt to hinder the scrutiny of the government.

The Election Commission’s (EC) decision to petition the Constitutional Court to define the scope of its own authority—in a move that conflicts with the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction—is viewed as an instance of an independent body interfering with the judicial process.

The fact that the opposition leader received an alert from Apple regarding sophisticated spyware has raised concerns that they are being targeted and surveilled by the state.

8-0 votes to call in Parliament Speaker to justify ‘letter’

Rangsiman Rome, a list-MP from the People’s Party and chairman of the House Committee on Legal Affairs, Justice, and Human Rights, announced an 8-0 committee vote rejecting a circular letter issued by House Speaker Sophon Sarum.

The committee criticized the document as an attempt to centralize parliamentary power and stripped committee chairpersons of their authority. Furthermore, the committee has summoned Speaker Sophon to provide an official explanation on November 12, 2026.

Rangsiman pointed out that the controversial three-page circular lacked a signature and official seal, rendering it legally non-binding. The move has intensified political tensions, with opposition and government figures clashing over the Speaker’s administrative guidelines and the delineation of parliamentary committee powers.

Meanwhile Supachai Jaisamut, a party-list MP from the Bhumjai Thai Party serving on the House Committee on Law, Legal Affairs, and Human Rights, has publicly criticized a recent committee resolution. The vote to invite the House Speaker for clarification was invalid and executed with bad faith.

According to Suphachai, the decision passed solely due to the presence of opposition members and a misunderstanding by Bhumjai Thai MP Natchanon Srikokuea, who intends to withdraw his vote. He further emphasized that forcing such a vote break established parliamentary precedent and lacks decorum.

Looking ahead to the upcoming committee meeting on November 5, Suphachai stated that he plans to submit a new motion to challenge the decision on legal grounds. Beyond the strictly legal aspects, he expressed strong disapproval of the move, describing it as inappropriate and contrary to long-standing parliamentary culture and traditions.

Gen. Chaiyapruek Duangprapat, Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC), convened a meeting with key government and academic bodies to craft targeted contingency plans in response to global volatility, particularly the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Reassuring the public against panic buying, he emphasized that these distant crises pose no immediate threat to domestic supply, with essential staples like rice and eggs remaining in surplus while the Ministry of Agriculture manages minor shortfalls in items like dairy and cooking oil.

Highlighting Thailand’s natural advantage as a global agricultural hub and “kitchen of the world,” the NSC chief affirmed the nation’s strong food security posture. He added that while existing supplies and government preparation are fully adequate to prevent domestic shortages, the authorities are also considering establishing a long-term national strategic food reserve to further strengthen future resilience.

It is reported that the meeting has outlined four scenarios for the situation in the Middle East to facilitate contingency planning:

The first scenario involves the conflict ending through negotiations, leading to a resolution and easing pressure on the global economy.

The second scenario entails fighting that remains contained, without spreading to other countries.

The third scenario involves an intensification of hostilities, though not as prolonged as previous conflicts.

The fourth scenario—the most concerning—involves intense, protracted fighting that spreads across multiple regions, ultimately causing widespread, long-term repercussions for the global economy and international security.

Political tensions flared after the Facebook page “Dom Som Universe V9” shared a photo of Mano Khruakaew, also known as “Kamnan Mano.” The Kamnan of Krabi Noi subdistrict is a key leader of the People’s Revolutionary Alliance for Protecting the Nation, which announced plans to mobilize supporters toward Government House in Bangkok.

Although the group claimed its movement stems strictly from economic hardships—such as high fuel prices and living costs—and insisted it is unrelated to politics, the post raised widespread public skepticism.

The controversy deepened as the published image showed Kamnan Mano posing familiarly alongside Rangsiman Rome, a party-list MP during an event at the Democratic People’s Warriors Monument. The close interaction between the protest leader and prominent political figures has drawn intense scrutiny, casting doubt on the movement’s non-political stance ahead of the planned rally.

Fuadi Pitsuwan, an international relations lecturer at Thammasat University, emphasized that the government’s primary duty is to build public confidence and ensure citizens remain aware rather than panicked. He highlighted Thailand’s strong standing as a major food producer and suggested assessing domestic reserves—such as canned food, fuel, oil, and gas—to guarantee self-sufficiency if international supply chains are disrupted.

He also recommended leveraging ASEAN’s regional framework by opening the bloc’s emergency relief warehouse located in Chainat province. Utilizing these stored supplies for disaster or emergency response would demonstrate ASEAN’s practical value to the public while allowing member nations to replenish the stock over time.

The Pheu Thai Party has scheduled an extraordinary general meeting for November 6, 2026, to elect a candidate selection committee and seek approval to field Sorawong Thienthong in the upcoming by-election for Sa Kaeo Constituency 3.

The by-election follows the passing of former MP Surasak Chingnawan on October 24, with the Election Commission scheduling candidate registration from November 11–15 and voting on December 6.

Sorawong, the Pheu Thai deputy leader and a former MP for the constituency, has confirmed his readiness to run and is seeking another opportunity to represent the local residents. The constituency covers Ta Phraya, Aranyaprathet, Khok Sung districts, and parts of Watthana Nakhon district in Sa Kaeo province.

Unidentified assailants ambushed and shot dead Sergeant Major Amphon Yaowadam, a paramilitary ranger from Task Force 48 (TF 48), while he was on leave visiting his wife in the Sungai Padi district of Narathiwat province. The incident took place at around 7:10 PM on November 4, 2026, when the victim was driving his pickup truck in Tambon Riko and was targeted by attackers who had likely staked out the area or tracked his movements.

Authorities and forensic officers discovered multiple bullet casings at the scene after finding the victim’s body lying beside his vehicle, which bore heavy bullet impacts on the driver’s side and cabin windows. Security forces, including police and military units, have cordoned off the area to hunt down the perpetrators, while an investigation is underway to determine the exact motive behind the attack.

National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Samran Nualma has signed an official order prohibiting the importation and distribution of the foreign publication “Routledge Handbook of Contemporary Thailand Second Edition,” edited by Pavin Chachavalpongpun. Published in the Royal Gazette, the order states that the contents of the book could impact national security, potentially cause public disturbance, and violate the overall peace and good morals of the country under the Printing Registration Act.

Anyone who violates this prohibition faces legal penalties, including imprisonment of up to three years, a fine of up to 60,000 Baht, or both, alongside the authority’s power to confiscate and destroy the banned publications. The enforcement of this directive takes effect immediately as part of ongoing measures to safeguard national security and public order.

Old Pick-up Swapping for New Pick-up

The government’s plans to give rebates for swapping old pick-up trucks for new ones require a lot of things such as destroying the old pick-up trucks.

Those eligible are Thai citizen who are of 20-years of age or more and 1 person per right to buy 1 pick-up. Those who can trade in could trade in their pick-up, passenger and/or van. But the vehicle has to be registered before 2555 or 2012 in the Gregorian calendar. The vehicle should still be drivable.

This move is expected to get rid of about 8.17 million vehicles that are older than 10-years in Thailand.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas spoke at The STANDARD ECONOMIC FORUM 2026 under the “Reinvent Thailand” concept, highlighting an Investment-led Growth strategy to drive Thailand’s economic growth above 3% by attracting global investments. The government aims to increase the investment-to-GDP ratio to 30% and elevate the country’s competitiveness into the global top 20.

He confirmed that the medium-term fiscal plan will definitely not involve raising the public debt ceiling from its current level of 70% of GDP. Instead, the government intends to work toward reducing the public debt figure. This current level of public debt is considered robust, especially when compared to the global standard, which typically ranges between 90% and 100% of GDP.

Additionally, as Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI), Ekniti introduced new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) focused on actual investment, job creation, and workforce skills rather than just application values. He also emphasized fostering inclusive growth to resolve K-shaped economic disparities while strictly maintaining fiscal discipline.

On November 18–20, Ekniti will lead a joint government and private sector delegation to Japan. The roadshow aims to strengthen long-standing economic ties and attract high-tech investments in next-generation automotive industries, semiconductors, and advanced electronics. The delegation will meet six major Japanese automakers to discuss electric vehicle support and host strategic forums with Keidanren and chipmakers. Key discussions will focus on electric vehicles (xEVs), supply chains for data centers, and power grid modernization to drive mutual future growth.

Suphachai Chearavanont, Chairman and Executive Chairman of Arise Ventures Group and Senior Vice Chairman of CP Group, called for Thailand to accelerate its economic restructuring to achieve a 4–5% annual GDP growth target. Addressing a new global economic order shaped by geopolitical, technological, and environmental transformations, he emphasized that attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) is crucial, noting that Thailand’s FDI trails behind competitors like Vietnam.

To successfully capture these investments and expand its international supply chain role, he stressed the need for political stability, consistent long-term policies, and enhanced public-sector transparency.

To position the country as a regional economic powerhouse, Suphachai unveiled five key development strategies: establishing a New Economy Hub for high-tech industries and automotive upgrades, creating a Technology and Innovation Hub to boost R&D spending, and developing a Human Capital Hub focused on AI skills. He proposed leveraging Thailand’s strengths to build a Food Security and Healthcare Hub, alongside a Trade, Logistics, and Financial Hub that utilizes its strategic location to connect regional markets and attract tech capital.

The Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JSCCIB), led by Chairman Poj Aramwattananont, has raised its forecast for Thailand’s GDP growth this year to 2.4–2.6%, up from the previous estimate of 2.1–2.5%. This upward revision is supported by a recovery in the manufacturing sector and strong momentum in technology exports, prompting the committee to also boost its export growth forecast to 18–22%.

Despite the improved overall outlook, Poj noted that the economy continues to undergo a K-shaped recovery. While industries tied to AI and data centers thrive, lower-tier sectors face sluggish domestic purchasing power. Consequently, the committee emphasized the urgent need to integrate local supply chains, foster domestic employment, and enhance the competitiveness of vulnerable businesses to ensure inclusive economic benefits.

Looking globally, the committee highlighted risks stemming from geopolitical tensions and high oil prices, which strain living costs and government budgets. Additionally, Phot stressed the importance of monitoring the U.S. midterm elections, as potential shifts in congressional power and trade policy decisions could significantly influence global trade dynamics and international investment sentiment.

The Land Transport Federation of Thailand, led by President Thongyu Kongkhan, has issued a 60-day ultimatum demanding the Energy Ministry reform the national fuel pricing structure and cap diesel at 35 Baht per litre for one year. If the government fails to act within November and December, the federation has threatened to escalate protests and send up to 1,000 lorries into Bangkok.

The petition, presented during a November 4 demonstration, urges broader structural overhauls—including cutting fuel excise duty to 5%, revising refining margins, classifying fuel as a price-controlled commodity, and investigating the disappearance of over 700 million litres of oil. Thongyu emphasized that these demands aim to provide relief for the general public, not just transport operators.

Ministry representatives Thitiphas Chotidechachainant and Pongpol Yodmuangcharoen agreed to forward the demands to Energy Minister Akanat Promphan. Pongpol noted that recent efforts to eliminate long-standing “phantom costs” have already saved consumers 10.8 billion Baht annually, while the ministry is also coordinating with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to prosecute entities involved in oil hoarding.

The Oil Fuel Fund Management Office (OFFO) approved a 0.70 Baht per liter reduction in the retail price for gasoline and most gasohol grades—excluding Gasohol E85—effective November 5. This adjustment reflects declining global crude oil prices driven by easing geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran, progress in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, and increased production outputs from major Persian Gulf nations like Saudi Arabia. Consequently, global market prices dipped slightly on November 4, with diesel closing at roughly $166 per barrel and gasoline at around $112 per barrel.

Under the new fund rate adjustments, retail prices for regular gasoline, Gasohol 95, and Gasohol 91 decreased by 0.70 Baht per liter (bringing them to 50.33, 40.84, and 40.47 Baht per liter respectively, despite minor increases in fund contributions), while Gasohol E20 dropped further in price to 32.80 Baht per liter. Meanwhile, Gasohol E85 and diesel grades (B7 and B20) maintained their current retail prices as adjustments were made to the fund’s subsidy allocations instead.

Today, Bangchak and PTT Station have reduced the retail prices of gasoline, Gasohol 91, Gasohol 95, and E20 by 0.70 Baht per liter, while the prices for diesel and premium-grade fuels remain unchanged.

Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has confirmed that the M6 Motorway connecting Bang Pa-in to Nakhon Ratchasima will be opened for free, 24-hour use across its entire 196-kilometer route starting December 25, 2026. He announced the plan following a meeting to review major transport infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing travel safety for the upcoming New Year holidays.

In addition to the M6 opening, the ministry is addressing critical traffic bottlenecks—such as expanding the slip road at the Ban Phaeo exit on the M82 motorway to alleviate congestion on Rama II Road. Furthermore, authorities plan to open sections of the Rama III-Dao Khanong-Western Bangkok Outer Ring Road expressway in December to further streamline regional travel and improve traffic flow.

Sarinee Achavanuntakul has issued a public statement of clarification and apology to former Deputy Finance Minister Vorapak Tanyawong and his wife. She acknowledged that her previous social media posts could have led readers to incorrectly view several serious allegations against him as established facts, and she apologized for the resulting reputational damage.

The clarification specifically addresses three major accusations: alleged involvement in transnational criminal networks and money laundering, nominee ownership regarding the Finansia investment through Pilgrim Finansa Investment Holding, and the alleged receipt of a cryptocurrency bribe through his wife.

Sarinee stated that current facts have not established any of these claims, emphasizing that social relationships, corporate investments, or borrowing money do not prove wrongdoing. Consequently, she is removing the related posts and explicitly asked the public not to treat her previous publications as confirmation of bribery or criminal links. This retraction serves as a significant step for Vorapak and his family in correcting the public record and restoring their reputation.

S&P Global Ratings has affirmed Thailand’s sovereign credit rating at BBB+ with a stable outlook, reflecting confidence in the country’s fiscal discipline, economic policy direction, and strong external financial position. The agency projects Thailand’s GDP to grow by 2.3% this year, with per capita GDP expected to reach $9,100, driven by ongoing infrastructure investments, the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), and strategic initiatives to attract high-tech industries such as data centers and artificial intelligence.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas noted that the government remains committed to balancing economic stimulus with strict fiscal discipline, supported by a strong external financial position and international reserves. While internal political stability and long-term fiscal discipline remain key factors for future credit rating adjustments, the affirmation from S&P—alongside consistent views from other major global rating agencies—underscores sustained investor confidence in Thailand’s sustainable economic growth.

Thai Airways International flight TG663, bound for Bangkok from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, was forced to turn back on Wednesday morning after pilots detected a crack in the left cockpit windscreen. Following standard safety procedures, the flight returned safely without any reported injuries among passengers or crew members.

https://www.facebook.com/reel/1462553652677673

In response to the incident, the airline provided accommodation for affected passengers and coordinated with partner airlines to assist with transfers. Additionally, Thai Airways announced it will deploy larger aircraft for flights TG662 and TG663 on Thursday to accommodate the stranded travelers, while emphasizing that passenger and crew safety remains its top priority.

Mahatana Ampornpisit, President of the Government Housing Bank (GHB), announced significant progress regarding the “Baan Khon La Huang PLUS” home loan program. As of November 1, 2026, over 11,430 people have registered for loan request codes since registration opened on October 15, accounting for a total loan amount of 34.29 billion Baht. This represents approximately 68% of the program’s total budget framework of 50 billion Baht, reflecting high public demand for affordable housing credit.

Designed in response to government policy, the program specifically targets low- to middle-income earners seeking to buy or build homes priced under 3 million Baht by easing income constraints and living cost burdens. The scheme offers maximum loan terms of up to 40 years, with initial monthly installments starting at just 3,600 Baht per 1 million Baht borrowed. Interest rates are tiered based on eligibility criteria: the standard income group receives starting rates of 2.60% per year for years 1–2, while the relaxed income criteria group receives 2.80% per year for the initial two years, transitioning to variable MRR-based rates in subsequent years.

The SET Index closed yesterday at 1,502.09 points, up 11.08 points or 0.74%, with a trading value of 76,971.32 million Baht. The market faced broad-based selling across almost all sectors—most notably in DELTA, as well as the energy and telecommunications sectors—which pushed the index down by more than 20 points. However, sentiment improved throughout the afternoon. A key driver was the recovery in Dow Jones and Nasdaq futures, as concerns regarding the U.S. midterm elections—specifically the prospect of a Democratic majority in Congress, which had previously pressured large-cap technology stocks—began to ease. This shift prompted a rebound in DELTA and triggered renewed buying interest in other large-cap stocks in the Thai market.

Furthermore, the decline of the SET Index toward the 1,470-point level made valuations more attractive, with the forward price-to-earnings (Forward P/E) ratio reaching approximately 12.7x. Given the potential for growth in the earnings per share (EPS) of listed companies, investors returned to buy stocks that had previously experienced sharp price declines.

For today, the index is expected to see a continued technical rebound, though trading will likely remain volatile. Investors should monitor the performance of U.S. technology stocks and Asian semiconductor stocks. Additionally, developments regarding global crude oil prices and the situation in the Middle East should be watched, as these factors could exert pressure on the energy sector. With support at 1,490 points and resistance at 1,515 points.

Today, Bangchak Corporation (BCP) is set to announce its financial results for the third quarter of 2026. Yuanta Securities has assessed the earnings outlook for BCP for the third quarter of 2026, projecting a net profit of 11 billion Baht. An increase of approximately 900% year-on-year (YoY) compared to the 1.1 billion Baht profit recorded in the third quarter of 2025—though this represents a decline from the record-high quarterly performance seen in the second quarter of 2026.

The primary driver is the refining margin, which is expected to remain robust at 17.6 USD per barrel. A widening diesel price spread, fueled by tight market supply, has helped offset both higher crude oil costs and the impact of government-mandated price reductions for diesel at the refinery gate. Furthermore, the company has begun fully consolidating the earnings from its marketing business in Hong Kong (BHK). Additionally, the power generation segment has seen an acceleration in performance, bolstered by profit shares from power plants in the United States and the high season for wind and hydropower generation in Laos.

Thailand’s Anti-Online Fraud Police have reportedly moved to seize and examine assets linked to actress and philanthropist Boom Panadda, her family and close associates as part of an ongoing investigation. The assets reportedly include houses, land, 20 vehicles, six firearms, luxury bags and more than 100 million in bank funds, including accounts connected to her foundation.

The latest move follows questions surrounding the source and acquisition of assets accumulated since 2017. Police are examining the assets and have acted to prevent any potential transfers while the investigation continues. Authorities are also considering whether to issue a summons or arrest warrant, with further clarity expected by Friday, November 6. The investigation is ongoing, and no wrongdoing has been established.

Kanchai Kamnerdploy has disclosed information regarding the financial trail and donation-related issues concerning Panadda Wongphudee’s “Ongkorn Tham Dee” Foundation. According to the Central Investigation Bureau, donations were received through three bank accounts—rather than just two—with the total number of transactions reaching between 1.8 million and 2 million, originating from over 900,000 individual donors.

The funds included 300 million Baht transferred to her husband, 200 million Baht moved into personal accounts, 3 million Baht spent on handbags, as well as payments for life insurance premiums and the purchase of stocks.

Deputy Interior Minister Phonphee Suwanchawee announced plans to amend relevant ministerial regulations and laws to enhance transparency and public access to information regarding foundations and associations. Under the proposed measures, the Department of Provincial Administration will improve its online system to allow public tracking of donations, meeting agendas, and financial statements, while empowering local registrars to enforce stricter compliance. Furthermore, authorities are updating penalty provisions from 1992 to match modern contexts, establishing that if a foundation commits violations, court proceedings will be initiated to revoke its license, potentially forfeiting its assets to the state or designated entities.

Regarding the “Ongkorn Thamdee”, the Ministry of Interior revealed that the foundation has failed to submit required financial statements, meeting minutes, and balance sheets since its inception in 2022. The ministry has issued a final deadline of November 10 for the foundation to submit all necessary documents; failure to comply will result in legal action through the court system, with severe penalties including civil and criminal liability, and the potential transfer of assets to the state or the Thai Red Cross Society as outlined in its charter.

Additionally, an investigation by the Department of Lands found no record supporting allegations that ” Gun Jompalang ” transferred land to Panadda.

Meanwhile authorities are investigating two large properties covering over 24 rai in Pathum Thani province’s Nong Suea district, linked to the Ongkorn Thamdee Foundation founded by celebrity activist Panadda “Boom” Wongphudee. The inspection was triggered after massive quantities of donated items—including supplies intended for Southern flood victims—were discovered stored inside warehouses and tents across the compounds.

Investigators are currently scrutinizing land ownership, the sources of funding used for acquiring and developing the properties, and whether the management of the stored donations complies with donors’ intended purposes. While locals noted that trucks and foundation members frequently used the sites to manage and redistribute supplies, authorities are examining the facilities to verify legal permits and ensure proper distribution to disaster victims.

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued Warning No. 7 regarding volatile weather across upper Thailand and heavy to very heavy rainfall in the South from November 5–9, 2026. Driven by a cold high-pressure system from China and stronger easterly winds, upper Thailand will experience thunderstorms, strong gusts, hail, and heavy rain, hitting the Northeast first before spreading to the North, Central (including Bangkok and its vicinity), and Eastern regions. The public is advised to take precautions and stay away from open areas, large trees, and unstable billboards.

From November 7–9, rainfall will intensify in the South, bringing widespread heavy to localized very heavy precipitation. Authorities warn residents in flood-prone areas, especially those near foothills and waterways, to prepare for potential flash floods and runoff caused by accumulated rainfall.

A thunderstorm accompanied by strong gusts of wind struck Chiang Mai province, causing a large yang na (dipterocarp) tree to fall and block the road along the old Chiang Mai–Lamphun route, known as the “Yang Tree Road, near the Nong Hoi intersection in Mueang Chiang Mai District.
