BN chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged party members to campaign responsibly during the Melaka State Election, emphasizing the importance of restraint amidst intensified campaigning between Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional.

He pointed out the necessity of adhering to a mutual understanding, despite the lack of a formal agreement, to avoid unwarranted clashes.

Ahmad Zahid further noted that excessive campaigning, particularly on unrelated issues, is unlikely to sway voter decisions.

The Melaka state election polling is set for November 14, with early voting on November 10.

ISTANBUL, Nov 5 — Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded all party machinery to exercise restraint and conduct their campaigning responsibly during the 16th Melaka State Election.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, said that while campaigning between BN and Perikatan Nasional (PN) had intensified, there had also been several clashes that should have been avoided.

“My stand, as well as that of the chairman of the coalition on the other side (PN), is that we should respect what we have mutually agreed upon.

“Although there is no formal agreement, mutual understanding is very important,” he told Malaysian media after a pre-meeting with the country’s representatives and delegation in conjunction with his working visit to Turkiye here today.

Ahmad Zahid said excessive campaigning, including raising issues unrelated to the state election, would not change the stance or decisions already made by voters.

The Election Commission (EC) has set November 14 as polling day for the Melaka state election, while early voting will take place on November 10.
