Accident on BKE towards Woodlands Checkpoint: Expect delays, says ICA

Travellers and motorists who are planning to depart Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint should expect delays, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said on Wednesday (Sept 9) morning.

In a social media post at 10am, the authority said this is due to a traffic accident near Exit 10A of the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) towards Woodlands Checkpoint.

According to ICA, the accident resulted in one of the carriageway's three lanes being blocked.

"Travellers planning to depart Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint should expect delays," it said.

Checks on the Land Transport Authority's traffic cameras at 12.15pm show bumper-to-bumper traffic along BKE.

There is also a slight queue at Woodlands Crossing, while traffic along the Causeway remains smooth.

Heavy traffic expected during Sept school holidays

On Aug 31, ICA had said that heavy traffic is expected at both Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints during the September school holidays from Sept 4 to Sept 14.

In its advisory then, the authority highlighted that security checks have been stepped up at all checkpoints since Feb 28 — when US and Israel struck Iran — due to the heightened global security environment.

"Travellers should therefore expect longer waiting time during peak travel periods," it said.

下午 12 点 15 分，陆路交通管理局的交通摄像头显示，BKE 沿线交通拥堵不堪。

伍德兰兹十字路口也出现了轻微的排队现象，而堤道上的交通仍然顺畅。

预计九月学校假期期间交通拥堵

8月31日，移民与关卡局表示，9月4日至9月14日学校假期期间，兀兰关卡和图阿斯关卡预计都会出现交通拥堵。

该机构当时在其公告中强调，由于全球安全环境加剧，自 2 月 28 日美国和以色列袭击伊朗以来，所有检查站的安全检查都已加强。

“因此，旅客在出行高峰期应做好等待时间延长的准备。”声明中写道。
