Anwar: Govt to provide assistance, support to families of five killed in Sarawak helicopter crash

The Malaysian government has pledged comprehensive support to the families of the five victims involved in a tragic helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Sarawak.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences and urged the public to await verified information from authorities.

The crash, which involved a Flying Doctor Service helicopter, claimed the lives of four Health Ministry personnel and a pilot.

Among the identified victims were Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham and Dr. Ainul Baraah Kamarudin.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — The government will provide all necessary assistance and support to the families of the five victims killed in a helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, Sarawak.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave the assurance in a Facebook post today.

Anwar said he was deeply saddened by the crash involving a Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter carrying four Health Ministry (MOH) personnel and a pilot yesterday afternoon.

“My thoughts and prayers, as well as (my wife) Azizah’s, are with the families of all the victims as they go through this extremely difficult time.

“May they be given strength and resilience. I urge everyone to give the families space and refrain from speculation while awaiting verified information from the authorities,” he said.

Yesterday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) said that a BO-105 helicopter carrying five people, including the pilot, crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport) in Ulu Baram, about 929 kilometres from Kuching.

The Health Ministry also confirmed that the helicopter, which departed from Miri, was carrying a medical officer, an assistant medical officer and two nurses on official duty, in addition to the pilot.

“愿他们坚强，充满韧性。我呼吁大家给家属一些空间，在等待官方公布确切信息期间，不要妄加猜测。”他说。

昨天，马来西亚民航局（CAAM）表示，一架载有包括飞行员在内的五人的BO-105直升机在距离古晋约929公里的乌鲁巴南龙乐浪短距起降机场（STOLport）附近坠毁。

卫生部也证实，这架从美里起飞的直升机除了飞行员外，还载有一名医生、一名助理医生和两名执行公务的护士。
