Cabinet expresses condolences to families of five killed in Sarawak FDS helicopter crash

The Malaysian Cabinet extended its condolences to the families of the five victims who perished in the Flying Doctor Service helicopter crash in Sarawak.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other ministers expressed their sympathies during a Cabinet meeting.

The identities of the victims have been announced, and the next of kin have been informed, while the cabinet awaits updates on the ongoing crash investigation.

Discussions regarding potential assistance to the victims' families will be subsequently referred to the Health Ministry.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — The Cabinet today expressed its condolences to the families of the five victims who died in the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, Sarawak, yesterday.

Unity government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and all ministers offered their sympathies and condolences at the weekly Cabinet meeting today.

“At present, the investigation process is ongoing and the Cabinet will be updated on its progress later," he said at a press briefing broadcast live after the Cabinet meeting in Putrajaya today.

Fahmi, who is also the communications minister, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad had earlier announced the identities of all five victims.

He said the victims’ respective next of kin had been informed of the tragedy.

Fahmi also said the Cabinet had yet to discuss extending assistance to the victims’ families.

“Any further information regarding assistance to the next of kin would be referred to the Health Ministry,” he said.

Yesterday, a German-made MBB BO-105 helicopter carrying five individuals, including the pilot, crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport) in Ulu Baram, about 929 kilometres from Kuching, while conducting an FDS operation.

It was reported that CAAM received notification of the crash at 3.58pm.

The pilot, a medical officer, an assistant medical officer and two nurses on board the light, twin-engine, multipurpose utility helicopter were killed.

“目前调查仍在进行中，内阁稍后将听取调查进展情况汇报，”他在今天于布城举行的内阁会议后举行的现场直播新闻发布会上说。

兼任通讯部长的法米表示，卫生部长拿督斯里祖基菲里·艾哈迈德医生此前已公布了全部五名遇难者的身份。

他说，已将这一悲剧告知遇难者各自的近亲。

法赫米还表示，内阁尚未讨论向受害者家属提供援助的问题。

他说：“有关向死者家属提供援助的任何其他信息都将提交给卫生部。”

昨天，一架载有包括飞行员在内的五人的德国制造的 MBB BO-105 直升机在执行 FDS 任务时，在距离古晋约 929 公里的乌鲁巴南龙勒朗短距起降机场 (STOLport) 附近坠毁。

据报道，民航局于下午 3 点 58 分接到事故通知。

这架轻型双引擎多用途直升机上的飞行员、一名医务官、一名助理医务官和两名护士全部遇难。

一名马来西亚女子在德里机场被捕，身上携带15公斤价值220万令吉的大麻。
