Anwar remembers Capt Zainol Afiq as kind man, pays tribute to pilot’s service (VIDEO)

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim fondly remembers Captain Zainol Afiq, who died in a helicopter crash, as a kind and good-hearted individual.

Anwar conveyed condolences to the pilot's family, offering support and recalling the pilot's service during the GE15 campaign.

A helicopter crash in Sarawak claimed five lives, including a medical team, with Malaysia mourning their sacrifice and the government promising support to the victims' families.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remembers Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, the pilot who was killed in yesterday’s helicopter crash in Sarawak, as a kind man of good character.

Anwar said he had fond memories of Zainol Afiq, who had flown him during the 15th General Election (GE15) campaign, including the pilot’s habit of shaking hands with him before boarding and after disembarking from the helicopter, as well as reciting prayers together.

He said the pilot’s service and contributions would always be remembered, and urged his family to inform his staff if they needed any assistance.

“He was a good person. He helped us a lot in our struggle. His contributions and service will always be remembered. If there is anything we can do to help, please let my staff know and, insya-Allah, I will make the necessary arrangements,” he said in a video clip of a telephone conversation with the late pilot’s father, Bee Sham Ahmad, that was shared on Facebook.

Anwar had called Bee Sham to convey his condolences, as well as those of his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and their family, to the bereaved family.

He also prayed for Allah SWT to grant the family strength, fortitude and patience in coping with their loss, and to shower His mercy upon Zainol Afiq’s soul.

The prime minister said he would also contact the families of the other victims killed in the crash.

“Malaysia mourns their sacrifice and their selfless service to the nation,” he said.

Anwar also gave an assurance that the Madani Government would ensure that the families of the crash victims received the necessary assistance and support and that their interests were properly looked after.

Yesterday, a BO-105 helicopter carrying Zainol Afiq and four others crashed and caught fire near Long Lellang Airport in Ulu Baram.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), in a statement yesterday afternoon, confirmed the incident and said it had received notification of the crash from the Flight Information Service at 3.58pm.

安瓦尔表示，他对曾在第十五届全国大选（GE15）竞选期间驾驶直升机的扎伊诺尔·阿菲克有着美好的回忆，包括这位飞行员在登机前和下机后都会与他握手，以及一起祈祷的习惯。

他说，人们将永远铭记这位飞行员的贡献和功绩，并敦促他的家人如果需要任何帮助，请告知他的工作人员。

“他是个好人。在我们奋斗的这段时间里，他给了我们很多帮助。他的贡献和服务将永远被铭记。如果有什么需要我们帮忙的，请告诉我的工作人员，愿真主保佑，我会做出必要的安排。”他在一段与已故飞行员的父亲比·沙姆·艾哈迈德的电话视频中说道，这段视频被分享到了Facebook上。

昨天，一架载有 Zainol Afiq 和其他四人的 BO-105 直升机在乌鲁巴南龙勒朗机场附近坠毁并起火。

马来西亚民航局（CAAM）昨天下午发表声明，证实了这起事件，并表示已于下午 3 点 58 分收到飞行情报服务部门关于坠机事件的通知。
